1. There are pros and cons to this as mentioned in the article |
|
But, all-in-all, I think it's a good idea. Thanks for posting, although I think it should get wider exposure than the lounge.

...sounds dangerous. I mean, is the perpetrator expected to simply roll over in pain and let the girl escape? Best "cure" for rape is a well-policed society that respects the rights of women. Now, I've no sympathy for the rapists, and something that makes them, well, think twice about it may be a good idea. But I can picture young women being checked first, and killed for wearing such a device in some of the horrible places in this world.

and I may be wrong about this, but my understanding is that it hurts like hell on entry, comes out with your junk when you pull out because entry hurt so %@$% much and trying to move once snared is excruciating, so is trying to remove it. I think the idea is that she runs away and he can't give chase without causing the sort of pain that'll bring him to a thumb-sucking fetal position.
My biggest question is:
Since it has to be rigid and thick enough that you couldn't cut it off yourself with a decent pair of bandage shears, isn't it going to be uncomfortable for the woman "wearing" it constantly?

7. The big assumption here is that the rape is going to be a one-on-one assault |
|
The serial rapists you read about in Africa are criminal gangs of youths traveling in packs. So even if the first assailant is writing around in pain, it's not like the victim's going to be able to just hop up and scamper off. What would happen in most situations is that the rest of the gang then murders and probably mutilates the woman who's humiliated their mate.
This product was put out by someone who doesn't understand the crime problem and just wants to turn a fast buck on it.

4. This invention is the best way to increse the frequency of oral and anal rape I can think of. |
|
Plus that pesky problem of women who use it being beaten to death by enraged rapists.
I understand the sentiment and support the idea of putting rapists in as much pain as possible, but this is going to backfire on quite a few women.

6. So, to protect herself, the woman has to insert & keep an object full of spikes in her vagina? |
|
Gee, what could go wrong there? Is she supposed to wear it all the time, or just during raping season?
I can just see the TV commercials: "It's midnight, ladies, and the bars are closing. Time to pop in your aXe and take the fun out of rapin'!"
Sorry, but this is just wrong from the start. Never mind that's it's only a deterrent to stranger rape, which is a minority of attacks. Why not take all that R&D money that went into this and just hire a bunch more cops and maybe put in some better street lighting and force their local prosecutors to serious pursue sex offenders? Or just add assault prevention to the country's health education?
By the way, wouldn't just wearing a shirt that said, "I'm wearing a Rape aXe" on it be a better deterrent?
