My Unemployment & My Fundie BA Xtian Mom - I Can't Believe What I Said
I've been unemployed for a couple of years (though I feel like I'm close to landing something soon. At least I'm finally getting lots of interviews), which is tough when you've got a family.

Anyway, my mom - who lives in another state - never fails in our phone calls to mention that she's "praying for me" to get a new job. My usual reply is, "well, it's not working."

But today, I guess I had just had enough. I know that mom is a 700 Club-watching/bush-supporting/asskkkroft-loving fundie, so when she AGAIN mentioned that she was "praying for me," I blurted out, "mom, I know you think that's going to help, but it hasn't helped in two years. If you're really serious about helping me get a job, then you should vote for John Kerry this fall so we can get a president back in office who actual cares about people and can create jobs rather than starting wars. And, you should tell all of your friends at your church to do the same thing. The problem isn't me and the other 8-million unemployed or God not listening to your prayers, it's Bush"

Well, there was a moment of silence, and then she says, "well, I'm going to continue to pray for you."

At least I said what had to be said. I wonder how the next phone call will go...

1. Keep saying it. Say it in every phone call.
And good luck. I hope you land a job soon.

3. Tell her to pray for herself that the Almighty will guide her to OPEN
her eyes to the evil regime that currently occupies the WH.

4. If that were my fundie relatives
When the prayers didn't work, it would be "Whatever God's will". And the more radical of them (if it is possible to separate them) would go pray and say "God told them that there is something not right with you".

You did it
God's will
Never their doing, does that sound famaliar??? Think I heard a line like that in Crawford Texas once.

Anypath, good luck and keep working on it.

6. Yeah, it's frustrating...
...that people do that. From what I know, Jesus and his disciples actually did material things to help people, and I give a lot of props to that 39% of evangelical Christians that do that and come through for the Democrats, but there's this certain group of them that I actually feel sorry for that get coralled into this right-wing line and think it's gotta be the way. I think you were very respectful of her beliefs in your call though, and even if she seemed to ignore it, I think she'll think about what you said because of it.
