this new clapton album is kickin' my butt
just came out and i am here to tell you it is a blues album. sometimes you don't know with eric, if you're gonna get an adult comtemporary sleeper like some he's put out lately, but the blues album, 'from the cradle' from a few years back was hard hard blues.

amazing from some white british boys, but that album re-affirmed eric as a bluesguy. this one picks it up where that one left off.

'me and mr. johnson', clapton's tribute to robert johnson, is another brit's homage to johnson's songs that so many have covered.
the stones, zeppelin, cream, etc., made hits of some of johnson's tunes, and this album reminds me of what clapton must have been going after when he was just a kid, ate up with the blues.

track 5, 'traveling riverside blues', and track 8, 'milkcow's calf blues' remind me of some of the old cream takes on blues riffs. electric and distorted, like on old tube amps.

this one's a winner in my book. been playing tracks 5 and 8 at top volume for 3 hours straight now and the cops are currently pounding on my door with guns drawn but i don't give a damn, that's how cool this album is.

1. Great news Mopaul
(about the Clapton CD, not the cops) I love "From the Cradle" and play it (and along with it on my guitar) all the time. You can be sure I will be picking up a copy today.

2. Cool! I was hoping it would be good.
The only good shit Clapton has done in years is the blues; glad to know he did it right.

4. Thanks for the review
Have always liked Clapton and do not consider myself a "purist". But Robert Johnson was king of the delta blues. Gonna buy it soon based on your review.

5. Say 'Dere Missa MoPaul...
You MIGHT wanna consider latching onto Larry Carlton's new cd titled "Sapphire Blue". Carlton is IMHO one of the most accomplished guitarists around and has just released this, his first ever BLUES cd! "I have for many years wanted to do a blues oriented cd. For "Sapphire Blue" I had complete creative freedom. It is a big part of my spirit captured on cd. I hope that all who listen will feel my joy"...from the liner notes. All songs written by Larry Carlton! www.LarryCarlton.com Listening to it right now and it is excellent!
