Want to see a fascinating artist?
Hugo Montero is a genius artist. All this was done with spray cans, old coffee cans, some torn pages from magazines, and a single sharp tool like a probe (for the straight lines). It takes him about 10-15 minutes to do a single painting.

He does them on the street, mostly in New Orleans. I met him at a SF convention, bought one of his works, then met him again in New Orleans and bought two more. Incredible stuff.

What he does is spray multiple layers in different colours, then use the old magazine paper to sort of smear it quickly to get the brush effects. The can effects are obvious, I guess. It's really something to watch, and to realise that each painting is done in less than 15 minutes.

1. ......
That is astounding. Art is so beyond me - being devoid of talent - that it just confuses me sometimes.

I especially love this particular piece. It's titled "In The Shadow of the Stars." It can be found here (as desktop wallpaper).

5. I also like Dave Eggers and Bonsall for space art
And there is a SHITLOAD of excellent space art at novagraphics:

http://www.novaspace.com

I have quite a few pieces from this site, though I have to say I was buying when I could only buy the unlimitee framed stuff, but still, they've enhanced my life in untold ways. :-)

I hope that, at some point, I can start collecting these artworks in the originals, or in limited editions. But in the ten or so paintings I have bought from novagraphics I have never, ever been disappointed, and they ALL hang on my walls. (and I say that because I have some artwork, that cost me much more than these, that remains in unhung inventory).

4. I love that art! If you like that, Roger Dean has art on show in Chinatown
If you want to know where, just ask me, but Roger Dean has a bunch of originals, some of them originals of Yes albums, on display. And also some limited editions of artwork from the album covers. I don't know the prices, though I'm sure the originals - which surprised me with their size which is about 5'x10' - are in the many tens of thousands of range.

I can't remember the street in Chinatown, since I go mostly on site and don't worry about street names, but if anyone wants to know, ask me and I'll come up with an address.

You can see a print of the Tales from Topographic Oceans and buy it there, or from his website:

The Gallery also had Musician's Birthday:

But, I have to say, the originals for the albums plus the other Roger Dean stuff there that is in large, original oil on canvas size is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. WOW!!

9. I used to watch a street artist
In Germany do things like that, it is truly amazing to watch it appear!! I wish now that I'd bought one of the pieces, but didn't at the time :( Really cool that you know where to find them, though!

11. Nice kick!
I'd just come back to this thread to kick it from "my posts" and see that it was already kicked!

I love watching the space art artists we have here in NY - and in all my years, I've always wantedto buy one from them but you know, I never have. Stupid me.

This year, though, I will!
