1. And what are you doing all summer while I work? |
|
If you are working good for you.
If you are screwing off like all college kids should, great.
Traveling Europe, cool.
enjoy it while you can.

5. the fun really starts when you're an instructor! |

130 17-page exams to mark from Monday (4 TAs to assist, but they need comprehensive marking key so they can get started right away -- I have to do a part as well)
34 10-page exams to mark from today (plus the one being written now by a panicked student who "thought the exam was scheduled during our class time slot, not 9 AM")
Exam review sheets to prepare for class that's having an exam next week
30 15-page term papers to mark (due last Friday but gave entire class a 3-day extension)
2 exams to prepare for next week
"self-evaluation sheet" to fill out for Human Resources
2 lectures to teach to 2 different class sections (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday)
Calm down faculty member who heard from a student that "Lisa said you said it was okay if I submitted the same paper to your course as well" (the student was fibbing)
Deal with cheating case (culprits set up website to share confidential materials)
Left over from last week -- 2 sets of assignments that didn't get marked because of time required to explain cheating case to Administration)
But that's why they pay me the big bucks, right?

6. My college student daughter is down in 'the Baja' on field |
|
research trip. This is a combined geology/biology course, 8 credits, focused on the ecology of Baja California and including 2 weeks of field work (half of which includes the school's spring break) at a string of research stations. Treks into the desert, swims with the fishes (and Very Large mammals), and camping far from just about everything. Two professors, seven students. Man, it looks like so much fun, I just wish I was down there. The college is Pasadena City College - if you're curious, go to their website and look for the 'Baja Science Program' under special programs.
And for those of you who hate summer slackers, she's getting her emergency med tech certificate this semester & going to ride ambulances over the summer. Something like 15 bucks an hour.
