How long after a cat has kittens can she be spayed? |
|
Another cat wondered out of the woods, and decided to live on the porch. No problem there.
But I put off getting her fixed, and sure enough, she was pregnant very soon after arrival. She might have been pregnant when she showed up, for all I know.
Well, a couple of weeks ago, she had her litter (four of 'em, if you want a couple) and now I'd like to get her spayed. When can I get this done? I wouldn't think of doing it until the kittens are weened, but I want to get it done before she gets pregnant again.

2. ask a vet, as they say. no offense, but I see medical questions here |
|
and think it's irresponsible of all to expect anonymous internet bloggers to have realiable medical advice.

3. Ultimately, a vet will tell me. Before he or she does the procedure. |
|
But I don't have a vet handy, and was wondering. So I thought I would take advantage of all the knowledge here.
It's not like I'm gonna do the procedure myself, you know.

That's why. Probably wouldn't work, anyway. They're horny little devils.
Edited for a typo.

8. Oh, I wouldn't even think of doing it before then. |

She needs her strength, and the kittens need their mommy.

7. They can get pregnent (and often do) fairly soon after delivery |
|
Mother Nature takes no chances :eyes:.... The vet can spay her if she is pregnant..
If you plan on catching her and the kittens, DO IT NOW !!! Those mother kitties teach their babies to avoid humans.. and they are FAST..Before you know it, you will have a ZOO in your yard..
Get a have-a-heart trap, capture her and her kittens and get her spayed..

9. No problem catching them. |
|
They live on the porch in a cathouse constructed specifically for the purpose. You can't walk outside without the mother coming out and saying "hi" and the kittens have been handled since they were old enough to be to keep them of being afraid of people.
I see what you're saying though. I've seen cats have kittens in an "undisclosed location" before, and that's a different situation from what I have.

12. You can do it at any time now. |
|
You can start weaning the kittens onto solid food at 3 weeks anyway. I've done cesarean sections on cats where they (for one reason or another) had to be spayed at the same time and it worked out fine. She can easily get pregnant again now, so try to get it done as soon as you can. Good luck!
