Don't go with a religious group. Go with a friend or SO. Then take the time to go decompress afterwards. It's a very draining movie. We went out to eat afterwards and talked about it. We were quiet for like an hour afterward. When we finally got to our table, we were glad to get a very energenic guy as our waiter. It'll also piss you off even more that war is being waged in his name. Duckie

3. I totally agree, and I'm not Christian... |
|
I thought that yes, it is a very powerful movie and probably is even more so for Christians. But really... gay bashing and all the similar attitudes the fundies have go against the teachings of Jesus and I'm amazed very few people consider this when analyzing the movie.

4. If you have a VCR you may want to tape the Today show |
|
tomorrow. They are supposed to have a report about how Jesus has been changed from a lamb to a lion. I wish I had a blank tape because I would tape it.

Being Catholic I do speak with a bias towards the movie, however for you non-religious folk who are frightened of what kind of message this movie hits it's quite simple: love your enemy, forgive those who wrong you.
All you hear about concerning this movie is Jesus's brutal death. You don't hear about the great scenes where Jesus is telling his diciples about how you achieve nothing when only those who already care for you love you, that in essence the true challenge is loving those who you feel hatreds toward.
Now this doesn't mean you have to go and love every neo-con who preaches hate ect towards gays or whatever, even the bible talks about how righteous hate is justified (i.e. hating someone who wants to kill you or a loved one ect), but for me personally it made me go and make a truce with my future mother in law whom I got into a heated verbal war with.
