I'm back from watching 'The Passion of the Christ' |

It wasn't as bad as I thought.
It was a little gorey, but that was nothing compared to what Jesus really suffered (assuming he did exist, and assuming he did go through what I, as a Catholic, believe he did).
I did cry as they crucified him. The rest of the movie was okay, though.
I don't have much to say, as I expected I wouldn't. I will say this, though: due to this experience, I appreciate what Jesus went through for our sake. It puts life into perspective: for as much as I may be suffering, at least I haven't had to be crucified or whipped to the ump-teenth degree. I am more grateful to Jesus for bearing our pain.
As for anti-semitism, a couple spots seemed (for lack of better words) questionable to me, but I'd rather not discuss that. The media has overhyped anti-semitism in this movie, IMHO.
If you are non-Christian, I hope that I have not offended you.

1. passion plays and judaism |
|
the movie (i haven't seen it yet), is basically a cinematic retelling of a passion play (since your catholic, as i was originally raised, you probaly went through the stations of the cross and may have seen one of the plays) ... passion plays were widely known to frequently be used to stir up anti-jewish feelings in people - that is probaly why the jewish community is a bit upset at this film. not to mention mel gibson's tradionalist beliefs make people question his motivations behind making the film. there really is quite a debate there, people just really don't want to look at it though since it would ruin a "beautiful experience".

...surveys show that there has been a small but significant increase in the number of people who, after seeing the movie, believe the Jews were the killers of Christ.
This is intensely disappointing to Gibson who was no doubt hoping for a massive increase in the numbers of people who believe the Jews were the killers of Christ.
