Why should a reservist refuse to go? Can he claim Consienctous objector status?
Is there any way legally he can get out of it?

4. No legal way out of it. |

CO status is a possibility, as might be personal hardship, but it's tough, and CO status takes a while.
A hospital stay or prison term is about the only way out now, but even they aren't foolproof.
fwiw, the Newark Star-Ledger today had a story about how 70% of the New Jersey Guard is now on active duty, or will be within a month or so. This leaves us with virtually no emergency disaster personnel if we get hit with anything big. Forget terrists-- we're more worried about floods, hurricanes and dams bursting.
