Sue me, I like Liz Phair's new stuff |
|
Edited on Fri Apr-09-04 03:09 PM by Paragon
I think fans who don't allow their artists to grow up aren't really fans. Liz has kids now, and that alone (not to mention that she's just plain older & more mature) is going to affect her art.
It's cool to write "H.W.C." in your twenties or whatever. Approaching forty, it would be pretty creepy. If you want rebel yells, there will always be plenty of youngsters cranking them out...oh, and Billy Idol, of course.
Besides, she looks good these days. ;-)

Dynamic, upfront, undeniable sonic power.

2. What I've heard isn't bad either. |
|
It's just different; and a little more mainstream. She does look good, too.

...i own the album and i think many of the songs are suitably catchy without being stupid. i just love "whitechocolatespaceegg" and although i think the new album doesn't come close to it, i put it on every so often. but to be honest i think the matrix guys are remarkably unimaginative producers and probably weakened the songs they produced. (if my memory serves, michael penn produces the tracks the matrix didn't....)
the thing is, i'm not sure the new album represents a maturity or growth in her talent. i actually think most of the songs are rather regressive and somewhat infantilized when put up next to her previous three albums.
not that there's anything wrong with that.....

Exile in Guyville's strongest trait was its brutal & very personal honesty. What I've heard smacks of insincerity.
singer/songwriters like that should never get too happy or comfy. they no longer remain interesting.

5. Remember: if you're successful |
|
If you're successful and sell more than 20 CDs, you're a "sellout".
That is all.

7. Her first 2 albums were the best. |
|
But she is just so good, that I am never disappointed. I only wish she would record more often.

8. I can't stand Hot White Mom's new stuff or old stuff... |
|
In the old days her ruse was "singing" about her tits and ass, now she just shows them.

9. OK - So you like her stuff, huh? |
|
Well then - what is the value of your current assets? Would you be willing to settle out of court?
I wouldn't be so litigious if you said you liked Sarah McLachlan - but hey - all's Phair in love and war, ya know.
Bwahahaha! Sometimes I'm so punny...
Sometimes not...*shuffles away*
