Saint-Saens Concerto #2 in G minor for Piano and Orchestra
<bliss!>

Haven’t played this recording in years and forgot how utterly stunning it is.

It’s overcast, chilly and rain is coming here in Brooklyn.

Somehow this music is exactly what I needed.

Any other ‘piano concerto’ fans? It’s my absolute favorite instrumental form.

1. Don't think I have that--I'll have to check my local library to see
if they do--they do have a pretty good collection of classical stuff.

BTW, isn't he French? Should you be listening to him? (Just kidding)

11. Why? Why not!!!
Actually, I've never gone to those sites--I think some people do thinking they might change a few opinions there--not bloody likely, if you ask me.

3. I"ve heard it stated
by musical critics who know a lot more than I do, that Camille Saint-Saens had the greatest innate musical talent of any composer, with the possible exception of Mozart. That most of his work was not commensurate with his ability one can attribute to his dubious work ethic and lack of imagination.

I still like a lot of his work - right now I'm listening to Yitzhak Perlman play his excellent and underappreciated b-minor violin concerto, with Daniel Barenboim leading the Orchestre de Paris.

5. I really like the "Organ Concerto."
Or is it the "Organ Symphony?"

Either way, it's one of my "blast out of the stereo" classical music I have recorded.

8. Big fan of Saint-Säens
Edited on Sun Apr-11-04 11:51 AM by messiertom
One of my favorite pieces (out of any genre) is his Concerto No. 1 in A Minor for Cello + Orchestra. There may be a little bias because it's the piece I've been studying the last year, but nonetheless...

10. The Emperor
Beethoven #5.

It use to be uncool to like this one, but I've loved it since 1963 when I found a MELODYA recording of it on vinyl with Russian liner notes, performed by the Leningrad Symphony and Sviatislov Richter.

I have 4 copies and all are outstanding. For inspiration, on the level of a full chorus of La Marseillaise or The Internationale.

I do also love anything written by Saint-Saens.
