professors can hurt right wing media with retirement fund
this is an emailing going around the California Teachers Retirement list... it's a good idea, and it shouldn't stop there. Blue state activisits, especially, need to demand that their retirement funds only get invested in places not overseen by fascists, or their apologists...

A surprising victory in the 2004 campaign came when Sinclair
Broadcasting backed down from showing an anti-Kerry screed after people threatened to boycott their sponsors, and probably more importantly, institutional investors like the New York state retirement fund, questioned their actions. We need to do that on an even larger scale.

In addition to contacting our retirement fund, we need to find sponsors of Fox, Clear Channel, and Sinclair Broadcasting and let them know we intend to boycott their products (probably more potent than the boycott itself).

Contact our retirement fund, Calstrs at this link:

https://www.calstrs.com/contact/contactpso.aspx

I'm going to contact other unions and the state tomorrow.

Please forward this to any of your friends that might be interested.

See my note to them below.

I would like to know if our retirement is invested in any of the
following corporations:

News corp (parent of Fox News)

Sinclair Broadcasting

Clear Channel

Time Warner (CNN)

GE (parent of NBC and MSNBC)

Disney (parent of ABC)

Viacom (parent of CBS)

These companies have actively worked against my personal economic
interests by not seriously discussing President Bush's record, how his
policies affect working people, and what serious scholars and experts
think of his foreign and domestic policy.

I don't want my money supporting businesses that undermine democracy.

Some of these business even support partisan politics over profit as
MSNBC did when it cancelled Phil Donahue even though it was the highest
rated show on their network.

Sinclair Broadcasting and Fox are the worst offenders, and if we have
any money invested in them, I want it out NOW.

You will be hearing from other people on this, and I expect to see
appropriate action.
