House: Factions in GOP threaten to divide
2004 election could see fierce infighting
By ERIN KELLY
Washington Bureau reporter
10/06/2003

Talk about a family feud.

Republican moderates and Republican conservatives plan to spend millions battling each other in the 2004 congressional primary races.

A moderate GOP group called the Republican Main Street Partnership, supported by private donors and led by Delaware Rep. Mike Castle, expects to increase its spending on key races from about $1.5 million last year to an expected $5 million to $7 million next year.

The main goal of the group, which is made up of more than 50 elected officials, is to save moderate incumbents from conservative challengers in the primaries.

The group is ready to step in on behalf of Eastern Shore Rep. Wayne Gilchrest, R-Md., if he needs help against conservative state Sen. Richard Colburn. Gilchrest successfully fought off a conservative primary challenge in 2002.

How about LOL? I'd consider making a small contribution to the Main Streeters. Whatever it takes.

3. I don't know
The moderates are more likely to win the election though. In some of these cases the conservatives will lose the election to the democrats. So, I don't know if I would want to contribute because it may help the republicans. I would only want to in a situation where the republicans will definitely win.

2. Hot dog!
I've been waiting for the moderates to start flexing some muscle. I thought after Jeffords they would see the light, but well, I guess even a moderate Republican is still a Republican and slow to react to changing environments. At least the moderates are capable of changing.

5. This is amazing.
Do you realize what this means, folks? Both real Dems and real Reps are trying to take their parties back from the corporatists and fascists that are undermining our country.
