Gov. Dean's statement on the recall |
|
Tuesday, October 07, 2003 --------------------------------------------------------------------- Statement by Governor Dean on the California Recall "Today's recall election in California was not about Gray Davis or Arnold Schwarzenegger. This recall was about the frustration so many people are feeling about the way things are going. All across America, George Bush's massive tax cuts for the wealthy are undermining state budgets, causing cutbacks in services and increases in local property taxes. Were recalls held in every state, it's quite possible that 50 governors would find themselves paying the price for one president's ruinous national economic policies. Tonight the voters in California directed their frustration with the country's direction on their incumbent governor. Come next November, that anger might be directed at a different incumbent...in the White House."

I hope that our anger IS directed in the right direction come November.

Putting distance between an Arnold success and George Bush. The recall has to seem very much in spite of Bush or the Democrats will suffer.

...Dean can blow but I expect not so hard as you. Now then, did you have something to actually add to the conversation? No? Thought not.

...to take tonights sour events and use them to make some kind of lemonade. Good for him. We have to look for the silver lining in these Republican storm clouds. I expect the Gropenator has bitten off more than he can chew.

Democrats, like Davis, have not run campaigns that empower people. Campaigns have been only about them getting into power, not about helping people or doing what is right for the state and country. That's the same strategy that Repukes use, except that after getting into power Repukes are not bashful about jaming their ideology down people's throats. Democrats have offered weak of any resistance at all to these creeps.
When Dean took over the governorship of Vermont, Democrats, especially the more liberal kind, were hoping to install a Democratic platform based upon ideology, not practicality. Dean rejected that. He told the Democrats back in 1991 that Democrats have a perception problem as "tax and spend" or irresponsible managers of public money. Dean made managing public money well a Democratic requirement and it paid off for him and the Democrats. Repukes may try to paint Dean as a "tax and spend" liberal, but Dean balanced budgets and reduced debt.

7. I like the attack but hes wrong |

The voters weren't frustrated...They wanted to vote for this bombastic fool, who looked good, had charisma, did movies and said groovy things like, "I'll be back."
I would wager 90% of the voters who went with Arnold toddled up to the box like little f***** robots and pulled the lever with the hopes that the Terminator would roll into the Govs mansion with a bazooka on the back of his hummer.
The voters weren't saying anything...because they aren't capable. Stick a message in a mindless 30 minute sitcom about who Joe Millionaire is going to bang tonight and maybe you can inspire them.
