Dean campaign install ex-Carter hand to help run campaign in Iowa
According to ABC's The Note:
Tim Kraft, "A man considered by some to be the father of the Iowa Caucuses is now lending his organziational expertise and his rolodex of Carter supporters to the Howard Dean campaign in Iowa."

Kraft led the Carter campaign efforts in Iowa in 1976 when he the ex-Georgia Governor came out of nowhere to win the caucuses and in 1980 when Carter defeated Sen. Edward Kennedy with 59% of the caucus votes in the state.

Current poll (see another thread) shows Dean narrowly leading Gep and Kerry in Iowa with 23% (Dean) 20% (Gep) 17% (Kerry). Gen Clark garners 7%.

1. This is a Good Karmic Connection since Dean
worked on the Carter campaign back in the day.

I got this off theblog..

"Cita con Dean" -- To Be Held Across the Country Tonight at 8 PM
Latinos for Dean will be hosting a "Cita Con Dean" tonight at 8 pm across the nation to celebrate the end of Hispanic Heritage Month and to spread Governor Dean's message to all Latinos."

Viva Dean!

2. and Carter went on to be such a successful president didn't he?
Wait a minute. No he didn't. In fact, he was so bad Teddy Kennedy ran against him in 1980 yet Carter held on and lost to Reagan in a landslide.

3. I don't see what that has to do with a winning campaign
strategy. Say what you will about Carter the president but he had an A #1 campaign staff.

By the way, I would take Carter's record over that of Reagan or both Bush's anyday.

--Carter created over 8 million jobs during his administration (compared to job losses under Bush II)

--Carter negotiated the Camp David Accords and Middle East peace treaty.

--Carter passed an energy program which Reagan dismantled. The program was working and by the end of his administration our hold on foreign oil was decreased by 15%.

--Carter completed the task of formal recognition of China.

--Carter pursued a strong anti-Apartied policy in Africa.

--Carter signed one of the great landmark environmental acts of all-time: The Alaskan Lands Bill.

--During the Carter administration the minimum wage was raised twice.

--Carter created the Dept of Education

--Carter appointed more women and minorities to high positions and judicial posts than all the presidents before him combined.

--Carter won the release of all of our hostages from Iran.

7. Don't forget Carter created Superfund
Which has been de-funded by Repugs ever since. Not many Repugs live in those inner-city toxic sites, they just create them.

6. Come on! Don't bust on Carter!
He's my man! :-)

The only criticism I accept for Carter is that he was too good of a man and too honest to be a good president. :-)

8. Carter was a good President
It was the first time we were exposed to the backroom shenanigans of Republicans. He was blindsided by it. If we had stuck to the policies Carter implemented, we wouldn't be in the mess we're in today.
