When someone actually mentions that the media is liberal, don't you want to get up and actually physically harm that person? Maybe that comes off as a tad harsh, but as someone with a media degree, watching what's on TV and the type of reporting with a critical eye, it's stunningly obvious that the media is not only not liberal, but is in fact conservative. People only say the media is liberal because that's what they've heard from Republicans, and Republicans have only said it so that they can 1) put pressure on the media to sway them in their direction, and 2) portray themselves as victims.
Fox News was created pretty much for the sole purpose of pressing political discourse far, far, far to the right, and the way they do it -- a fashion that is less pure information and more confrontational entertainment -- worked beautifully. Ratings is simply more important than content, and Fox News used this concept to influence the discourse for the conservatives.
This "liberal media" crap pisses me off to no end. And the conservatives just scream "CBS! Dan Rather! Memogate!", even though 1) everything said in the memos was true, and 2) it was proven that there was no political bias. Failing that, they just claim the media is liberal because it's been said to them so much that they don't want to believe anything different. In that sense, it's just like the hard-right slant of the news they blindly believe.

Bill O'Reilly pretends to be a journalist. Michael Moore doesn't even pretend to hide his beliefs and doesn't pretend to be a journalist.

...a syndicated editorial column at least twice a week. He's not a real journalist. He's a pundit pretending to be a journalist.

18. And even as he's not pretending to be a journalist... |

Moore is more of one that Bill on his sincerest night!
And I'm still waiting to hear what the big lie in F911 is; it's like WMDs, the consoviets claim they're all over yet they fail to produce ONE!
O'Reilly, on the other hand, will dismiss a redhanded fib as an oversight and then "j'accuse" the person who points it out.
Example: Franken and the "Peabody" Example: Terri Gross and the voter registration Example: The caller a few weeks ago who called him on his "combat" experience.

When I hear someone start to tlak about the 'Liberal Media' I say, "Yeah, can you believe how the Plame investigation is going now?" and, "Wow! Do you think Blackwell is going to respond to the Conyers' Report?"
And they say, "Huhn?"
So I say, "Well, if the media weren't so darn liberal, they wouldn't talk about those bombshells, would they?"
That darn Liberal Media!
I can't imagine how much glue I would have to sniff to believe Rush Limbaugh when he says that the MSM is Liberal and he is fair and balanced.

15. I think it goes like this. |
|
Remember when Newt Gingrich was making nasty remarks all the time and Ken Starr was going off on his Whitewater witchhunt? Without the media sugar-coating everything Gingrich said, he looked really bad. As for Starr, the media pointed out his longtime ties to the Republican party and ruthlessly continued to cover the scandal despite it looking more and more like Starr had nothing. The far right would not believe the obvious conclusion, preferring to think of Gingrich and Starr as good men under the assault of a liberal-biased press.

...that's how I've always seen it. Note how the implications of many news reports are vague enough to be apolitical in nature when an issue is first developing. When they hear public feedback, that's when they take actual positions that essentially tell the public what they want to hear.
