Let's Be Realistic About Liberal Radio |
|
Its going to come down to the skill of the hosts, not the ideology. Franken, IMHO, was not very impressive today. Whaddya expect? It was his first day.
As he develops as a host, he is going to have to find a way to entice people to listen. Today, we listened because it was a novelty and it supports our views. What about next month? Or the month after?
Like many other people, I still need to be entertained. If he can entertain his listeners (better than he did today) then I think he will be very successful. If not, then not.

1. I agree, especially if he is to draw people |
|
away from Limbaugh, which is why we put him at 12-3.
I was thoroughly unimpressed with Franken today, he seemed a lotlike an amatuer. The Coulter bit was funny the first time, but it was too long, and I really thought it hurt the Moore interview when they brought it up.
Also, I really hoped I would enjoy a program with Bob Kerrey, Al Gore and Michael Moore a lot more. He can't get a much better line up (without Big Dog), and he can't get names like these everyday.
I hope he learns on the job fast, or else his show ain't gonna last.

2. Franken was not the star |

He was one of the weaker ones during the day. I hope he can learn quick, though...
Anyway, it's his first day! Let's cut hum some slack for now.

3. Absolutely, cut him some slack. |

I have to say, I was in the house all day and listened to all of the programming. I was not bored once, and I enjoyed it all. Maybe I'm just too thrilled to have all these people on, but I really enjoyed it. Loved the show with Janeanne, Randi's show and the one from 7-8 PM that talked about the news (the one that Will Pitt was on, good job, Will!). I am looking forward to listening tomorrow.

I have never listened to Malloy, but having listened to Rush Limpbrain for years, I can appreciate broadcasting talent. Rush has it. Franken may develop it. I supe hope so, because liberal radio is a great idea. I think we need it bad.

his format seems to be more of a variety program; at least to me. And that's okay, I enjoyed his program. The Anthrax skit had me laughing until I about pissed my pants. Great Franken.
Randi demonstrated "shock and awe" which I like.
The lineup would be complete if they could just find a time slot for Mike Malloy. Randi and Mike both have proved to attract an audience; and keep them.

7. I only caught Randi... |
|
I've never been much of a talk radio listener, but I listened today to AA over the 'net.
Is it usual to talk over callers so much? I was kinda hoping to hear more liberal friends calling up and expressing ideas, but it seemed like Randi kept talking over the callers.
Anyway, I'm glad we have a voice on the air now.

9. I listen to liberal radio ravenously |
|
Until he went off the air, I never missed a Mike Malloy show. Randi is fantastic and is very compelling. She has great potential to be a big draw.
There are a lot of great liberal talk show hosts out there and I listen to them all the time. I think their appeal could be huge if they get on big networks like AAR. How about Thom Hartman, Peter B Collins, Bernie Ward, that guy in Michigan (forgot his name), obviously *Mike Malloy*. There are a lot more.
I do agree that Al's shows have been somewhat lackluster. First thing he needs is a real co-host. Katherine just holds back his potential. But he is a big name draw, and I know a lot of folks are checking out AAR simply because of him. If that's what leads them to Randi, then all the better.
