One Job You Can't Have If You're A Poor Black Single Mother
Here's a little excerpt from Rich Lowry's opinion piece published in The New Hampshire Union (mis)Leader:

"But no one should underestimate the importance of the signals sent by our culture. Stay-at-home moms have been bombarded for years with messages disparaging their choice. Now they should hear something else: that staying at home is a great and admirable act of self-sacrifice; that a career is not the only venue for important and meaningful work; that it is not unambitious to want to give your young children the full measure of your energy and attention."

Again, unless you happen to be a single mother, in which case your desire to stay home is a sign that you are lazy, and therefore must be forced to find important and meaningful work at the local Wal-Mart, or McDonald's, or whatever other low-paying job is out there, while some unlicensed, unregulated childcare provider gives your child much less than the full measure of the energy and attention they deserve.

How do you spell "hypocrite"? I don't know, but I know it starts with an "R."

3. OMG! I just wrote to a rw conservative xtian site
Edited on Mon Mar-29-04 06:54 AM by Sugarbleus
run by Beverly Lahaye....concerned christian women???? forgot the exact titel.

They had the exact hypocritcal stats on their sites. It was soooooooo glaring I just HAD to write to them.

First they had the nerve to make a serious case for single mothers(welfare mothers) get a job! They produced stats on how the welfare roles had gone down (though not sighting how these people were actually faring by being kick off welfare) These people were obviously making a prejudicial case for saving tax money--While belittling the struggling mother with a housefull of kids to support on ONE SALARY.

The next chart was about the "importance" of married stay at home mothers. Saying since these "wedded" mothers could, feasably if needed, go back to work because they had a two parent household which presumably could afford child care. Most importantly, they went on to encourage that women NOT go back to work when they have young children at home. Saying these women should sacrifice more earnings for the greater benefit of raising their young children. They were putting a LOT of importance on parents remaining WITH THEIR children rather than going into the workforce. BUT, the single welfare mothers were considered a drain on society and SHOULD be away from their children in order to GET A JOB; no childcare help was entered into this data either. GEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEZUS What Hypocracy. I let these folks know how twisted and contradictory their theories were.

5. Yessireee bob, thats the very one................
I listened to the senate today on c-span. They were on the welfare reform thingy AGAIN....... they were discussing other things too, but I got all choked up when I heard them rale about this program once more. I immediately wrote to my state sen. and to T. Daschle with my very pointed concerns over the bias between single mothers and "wedded" mothers. We shall see if ANYONE responds to my concerns.
