After reading The Shock Doctrine, I believe that the door is legally open for the Bush Administration to declare Martial Law. One way for them to do this is if the economy suddenly becomes really, really bad. Which I think it will.

I won't feel really safe until AFTER the election.

And having grown in a target for this (mexico, seldom mentioned), I have seen the effects, including the creeping fascism... so a lot of this is so damn familiar

If the economic house of cards falls under this administration, the prez may invoke National Security Presidential Directive/NSPD 51, National Continuity Policy?

NSPD 51 gives the prez the option to takeover the entire federal government in case a disaster hits the US.

Para 2(b) states: "Catastrophic Emergency" means any incident, regardless of location, that results in extraordinary levels of mass casualties, damage, or disruption severely affecting the U.S. population, infrastructure, environment, economy, or government functions".
