Nantucket Residents Seek To Limit Number Of Cars & Trucks
NANTUCKET -- For the fourth consecutive year, residents of Nantucket are asking the state for permission to limit the number of motor vehicles on the island.

There is currently no limit, and residents are concerned because the number of cars and trucks registered on Nantucket jumped 77 percent over the past decade.

The Cape Cod Times reports that population on Nantucket has nearly doubled since 1990.

A home-rule petition was approved at Town Meeting this month, and was sent to Beacon Hill. If approved by the Legislature, it would allow the town to limit the number of cars, trucks, motorcycles, and mopeds."
