BATFE running out of Form 4473's...
http://www.atf.gov/firearms/010609atf_f4473shortage-notice.htm

All you people buying guns have run them smack out of paperwork. (I didn't see that coming.)

:fistbump:

I'm glad I bought my little carbine in 2002 when the price was roughly 60% of what it is now...guess I should have bought more instead of pouring money down my 401(k)...

And has anybody priced AR's lately?

:wow:

2. Geez. How hard is it to print
up enough of them? This is right up there with not having enough ballots on election.

Okay, I am not confusing buying guns with voting, but it's the idiocy of not planning ahead for the demand in both cases.

3. lol
I decided to not even bother with getting an evil black rifle after I got laid off. Wouldn't be able to afford the ammo to shoot it much, anyway. Glad to see the people that can afford it are getting them (or what's left of them) while they can.

5. Running out?
I thought they were trying to get dealers to adopt an online form or some such thing? You really want to see panic buying? Start the rumor that the government is going to quit passing out 4473's. That ought to be a real hoot.

;-)

Is that where all the price increase is or have the other components gone up correspondingly?

I've seen the shocking AR prices, but I haven't checked parts lately.

8. There are still RRA lowers here for $159
You just have to catch them as they sell in about one day.

They have been getting about 4-5 every 2 weeks around here, the good gunshop is still keeping the same prices thus far.

I'm glad I got my Barrett, they are $10k now around here(mine was $7800).

10. Buying from dealers.
The serial-numbered parts have to get into private hands somehow.

11. Prices should be dropping again soon
Bubba will be losing his job soon and that half dozen rifles he bought in November will end up in the pawn shop. Plus, many manufacturers doubled production at the end of the year, and that should be flooding the market about the time Bubba will be more worried about paying the rent and feeding his kids.

Some good deals to be had pretty soon. I'd be excited about it except I already have more guns than I need or really want.

BTW, I'll be flying out to the SHOT Show tomorrow. I'll try to get a feel of how the market looks from the manufacturers' viewpoint.

14. Time is on my side...
I've got my eye on a couple of "panic buys" that guys at work made. As soon as their wives figure out they have five or six carbines that they aren't even allowed to use at work, the price will come WAY down. I'll probably buy thirty rounders before another rifle.

Wouldn't mind an update if you don't mind guntard :)

I also hope your firearm market assessment comes true.

Kind regards,

Xela

13. Our local shop has plenty
The lady that runs my little local gun shop said they have plenty of 4473's available.

But she said the big chain stores; Bass Pro, Cabela's and Gander Mountain, request thousands of them at a time from the Federal Printing office, and with the high levels of demand they might have over stocked the forms and created a short term shortage.

Coincidentally she had 4 new DPMS stripped lowers that just came in in stock when I stopped by last week and said they would probably be sold by Sunday afternoon.

She had them for sale for $189 and it was tempting I'd like to build a super accurate long barrel for Camp Perry ... but I built two on Bushie forged lowers last year, an A2 and an M4gery, and I have enough other projects in hand right now, like rebuilding my '64 Vespa for next summer. It gets 120 mpg and will make a great second car for decent weather with gas prices going up and down for the forseeable future. (Besides, if my wife sees me back at the bench with another rifle in the building form before I get some house stuff done it could get ugly fast.)

I agree that a number of these rifles and lowers will find their way back to the second hand counter in a year or so but I don't think they will be a big bargain when they do.
