There is a fascinating article about Norman Finkelstein written by Noam Chomsky, called The Fate of an Honest Intellectual.

Norman Finkelstein vs Martin Indyk, A Debate on Israel's Assault on Gaza and the US Role in the Conflict

"The Israeli assault on Gaza is entering its thirteenth day. Some 700 Palestinians have been killed, with many thousands more wounded, and a humanitarian crisis is mounting. Ten Israelis have died, four by “friendly fire.” A ceasefire has not been reached, and the offensive continues. We host a debate between Martin Indyk, the former US ambassador to Israel and Assistant Secretary of State for Near East Affairs during the Clinton administration, director of the Saban Center for Middle East Policy at the Brookings Institution and author of, Innocent Abroad: An Intimate Account of American Peace Diplomacy in the Middle East, and Norman Finkelstein, author of several books, including The Holocaust Industry, Image and Reality of the Israel-Palestine Conflict and Beyond Chutzpah."

1. thanks for the link
it is interesting that Indyk couldn't refute Finkelstein accusations at hand but instead saying he was sandbagged and keeping with that excuse throught the entire segment.

3. Indyk's contempt for international law was pretty revealing
Dismissed it as "legalistic paraphernalia" if I recall correctly... Apparently the guy is a Clintonite too, not some Bushie. These are supposed to be the good guys?

The funny thing about American Exceptionalism is it isn't at all exceptional. Always nice to see the US politicians and intellectual community, united with Nazis, Stalinists, nationalist extremists of all stripes, in the belief that the favored state isn't bound by the laws we criticize official enemies for violating.

This is a relatively free country. We probably won't be beaten, jailed or killed if we speak out, which makes the cowardice and subservience of the american intellectual community all the more appalling.
