Straw will not defend our citizens (British press)
Britons are shot by Israel and tried in secret by the US with impunity

In December 2002, Iain Hook, a British citizen working for the United Nations, was shot dead by an Israeli sniper while working in the Jenin refugee camp on the West Bank. In April 2003, Tom Hurndall, a student photographer volunteering with the International Solidarity Movement in Rafah on the Gaza Strip, was shot in the head by the Israeli Defence Force as he carried a Palestinian girl to safety.

In May 2003, James Miller, an award-winning and experienced freelance cameraman, was shot in the neck, again in Rafah on the Gaza Strip and again by the Israeli Defence Force - but this time while waving a white flag. To these sorry ranks must now be added the pointless murder of journalist Richard Wild.

In every one of the Israeli cases, the response of the Foreign Office has been at best pusillanimous. There is endless talk of "softy softly" approaches, but little action. We do not know the names of the soldiers who shot the British citizens or the dates for their court martial. There is not an apology, let alone compensation from the Israeli Defence Force.

And now we have the final indignity. A nation with whom we fought side by side in Iraq is preparing to try, and then potentially to execute, two British citizens in a secret court. Feroz Abbasi and Moazzam Begg, both held without charge in the legal black hole of Guantanamo Bay for 18 months, will be tried before a panel of army officers, defended by a Pentagon-appointed lawyer, and have no right of appeal.

Thus far, the Foreign Office minister Baroness Symons has suggested she has "issues" with the process and hopes to have a "vigorous discussion" with the US. The Foreign Office will no doubt be deploying the same type of vigour they have displayed with the Israeli government when, in fact, Abbasi and Begg should already be in Belmarsh awaiting a British trial. Not only America but also Britain's global reputation can only be sullied by its implicit compliance with this wholly unconstitutional process.

1. i can top that
how about "Israel can bulldoze American women to death with impunity".

add that to "Israel can shoot up American spy ships with impunity".
Israel can bribe Americans to become spies, with impunity.
Israel can torture prisoners, with impunity.
Israel can indefinitely detain people, with impunity.
Isreal can shoot reporters and cameramen, with impunity.
Israel can fire missiles into civilian neighborhoods, with impunity.
Israel can raze homes, with impunity.
Israel can destroy olive groves, with impunity.
Israel can assassinate whomever they please, with impunity.
Israel can develop and deploy nuclear weapons, with impunity.
Israel can illegally colonize occupied lands, with impunity.
Israeli officials can make racist statements, with impunity.
Israel can create bantustans ala apartheid South Africa, and build a Berlin-wall-like "fence" around its stolen territory, with impunity.

they can do all these things, with impunity, because Uncle Sugar is always there with billions of dollars of aid. and in a pinch, the might of the world's most powerful military is there to backing up whatever new atrocity they manage to cook up.

3. Hey, haven't you heard?
Deaths of such low numbers are called "irrelevant".

Like those Americans who suffered under terror attacks, killed while riding civilian buses in Israel, or on hijacked ships, they also are "irrelevant".
