Using the Tacoma Narrows Bridge to illustrate the problems with appealing to the layman to understand physics through observation of movie footage. YouTube vid, 2m 45s.

He should collect these together with some bridging material and he'd have a nice intro to critical thinking DVD.

4. Yes, it makes a clear point with visuals that would otherwise be difficult to make. |
|
-I once helped set up a walker for someone suffering with brain tumors and they didn't believe that the 4 legs were level. I showed them how an equal amount of holes were above and below the fastening points on all four legs, and he still denied they were level. I took a board off of a shelf then, and laid it across the top of the walker, then grabbed an orb from a set of Chinese Health orbs (the ones that softly jangle when rolled on your hand) and placed it on the board. When he saw that the orb didn't roll off, he smiled big, finally believing me. There's some kind of relevance in there somewhere.

2. I knew it was wind and natural resonance... |
|
and I'm sure a lot of people here knew that too..I'm not a scientist, I'm not a physicist, I'm not an architect...
How could I know that?
Oh that's right, I've been on planet Earth for nearly 50 years, I went to school, studied some, I've read a lot of books, seen a lot of documentaries about disasters...
Oh hum.
The point of that video is... what?

5. You must have had your sound and brain turned off when you watched it. |
|
It relates to some of the ridiculous arguments endlessly made by the worst members of the so-called Truth movement. If you're one of those people, I'd bet confirmation bias and invincible ignorance are preventing you from getting the point which is so bloody obvious.

6. The pathetic thing is the attempt... |
|
..to lump everyone who questions 9/11 OCT together as if they haven't got any critical thinking abilities.

to lump those who don't believe the loony 9/11 CTs together with the GWB supporters.

9. Actually, that was the shadow gubmint's first test of the "space-beam-destructo-ray." |
|
Also, they were testing a new experimental thermate cutting charge. This video fails (on purpose) to show the distinct puffs of smoke and "dustification" when the road surface "explodes."

10. I don't have time to watch right now, but ... |

If this is pointing up the hazards of frame by frame analysis by people without thorough background in image analysis, I completely agree. This is one of the many problems with the no-planes theories.

Though I wish you would have included controlled demolition with no planes.

12. Interesting video. Some UK examples to back it up. |
|
The Millennium Bridge in London had to be closed because resonance effects in footfalls caused it to sway. Dampers were installed.
A much better example is Ferrybridge Power Station in Yorkshire.
Several of Ferrybridge's cooling towers were destroyed in a storm in 1965. It has been studied by structural engineers ever since because the towers collapsed in an extremely strange way. They were not "blown over" or damaged by flying debris - they exploded outwards, in some cases into the direction of the wind. In fact, the towers had been built too close together, and the wind had created a vortex around them - they were sucked to pieces. It's a fascinating case. But I can just imagine CTers seeing there bizarre collapse as obvious controlled demo.
Buildings behave in very strange ways in normal circumstances. When they're on fire, all bets are off.
