Wesley Clark would be president - elect right now. |
|
But he made the mistake of not running in rural Iowa where he would have done awesome then Kerry had momentum created by the media and it was all over before it even got started.

Maybe that was a mistake, maybe not. History shows that it couldn't have hurt.
But the more I think about it, the more I become convinced that there just wasn't enough time.
Wes Clark's story is one that will appeal to the majority of Americans.
(read and re-read the above sentence till understood folks)
But, America has to actually hear that story, and unfortunately, America in the main (democrats included), do not pay attention to Political candidates until it is time to elect them. Because of that perverse trait, John Kerry, the-seasoned-politician, looked better at first glance than Wes Clark, the wise statesman/warrior liberal.
But make no mistake, Wes Clark's story is one that will appeal to the majority of Americans.

9. Before you get too carried away ... |
|
Hugh Shelton, Chairman of the JCOS under Clinton (1997-2001), last year, said the following,
"I've known Wes for a long time. I will tell you the reason he came out of Europe early had to do with integrity and character issues, things that are very near and dear to my heart. I'm not going to say whether I'm a Republican or a Democrat. I'll just say Wes won't get my vote."
I do not know what the specifics of this charge are, but to claim there is nothing to it and that Clark would have sailed to victory (or would sail to victory in '08) is myopic and 100% ideological.

10. The specifics of the charge??? |
|
Generals jockeying for position, petty jealousies, and perhaps carrying disagreements a bit too far. This was dealt with in the primaries and can be once again. If this is the worst they can throw at Wes..I'm not worried.

got crushed in the primaries, then what does that say about those that got fewer votes than him in some states? Was Edwards slaughtered because he came in 4th in NH? Was Kerry blown away in OK because he trailed CLark?
Clark didn't win the nomination but I wouldn't catagorize it as being crushed.

17. Well no one is going to "sail" to victory in a country like America |
|
But that doesn't mean that there is anything swift boat like in the Hugh Shelton charge.
Indeed there turns out to be nothing to it (god knows they looked), and Hugh Shelton's character and integrity is in doubt because of that statement.
No you don't know what the specifics of that charge are, do ya? Didn't mind finding at least some merit to them though, did ya? *sigh* Such is politics.

Used Shelton's smear while Clark was testifing against him in The Hague, The prosecutor Carla de la Ponte called Shelton to confirm and to evaluate whether he should come to testify on Milosevic's behalf. Shelton backpedaled, saying it was 'just politics.'
I have as much contemtp for Hugh Shelton as I do for Bob Dole. Both ought to know better than to put politics above honor.

2. Vilsack has a powerful organization in Iowa which |
|
had a deal with Kerry and the DNC to stop Dean and get Kerry a quick victory to begin the much needed "landslide" to jump start an "electable" candidate.

3. Fascinating! But the people I know who caucused for Kerry did so because |
|
Kerry fought like hell for their votes at every rally and town hall meeting. He stayed and talked to everybody who wanted to talk to him.
Don't get me started on Vilsack, nice guy, weak governor.

9/11 could have never happened and Chimpy's approval rating could have been 28% percent on November 1, and he still would have won! It's all about who counts the votes.

8. If I may remind you... |
|
the "war on terror", while it may be misnamed, it may be abused by politicians, is still a VERY REAL THING.
Personally, I want a person with Wes Clark's intellect and passion for liberal democracy involved in the solutions.

Damn it, I love Wes Clark. And if he gives the word in about two years that he wants to make a run--we'll be there. But a lot can happen in two years. I appreciate the sentiment in the petition urging him to run in 2008--but aren't we a bit premature? The other day when Chris Matthews tried to mug Clark with the "You've got the bug..you really want to be president.." stuff--Wes handled it well. But do we really want to get into this right now??
We have other fights in the next two years. Let's not get too far ahead of ourselves. A little patience... And I'm admonishing MYSELF in this too---because in the back of my mind I keep thinking 2008 as well... First things first...
The Ohio recount....

Many will agree the quick primaries were not a good idea but to start positioning for the nomination this earlier is a bit to soon. There are plenty of goals closer at hand including house seats to pick up in '06.
Nothing wrong though with clearing up the crap load of smears against Clark that are still be leveled.

candidate, he would not have been elected. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x1376156Wes Clark is a good man, but he would not have been elected either.
