Dear Senator Hillary Clinton, |
|
Dear Senator,
Please do not run for president in 2008. I am a liberal Democrat and support you generally, but I think you serve the party best by staying a Senator!
I disagree with your political move to the right. Please be more liberal. I will definately stay home and stop voting if the Democrats keep on supporting torture, and war, and Likud. I am so disappointed with the Democrats and basically think America is going down the tubes abandoning the New Deal and embracing wars of conquest.
Where's the new Iraqi Government? How come they have even done anything yet? How could John Negroponte be running anything? Why has nooone been held responsible for the ongoing torture? Why does my goverment "render" prisoners for torture by other countries? Why don't you speak out about these things?
Sincerely,
still a Democrat

|
She has been consisten with her position for all these years; this 'move to the right' is nothing more than a talking point from the Repubs and I am upset that so many of you are buying it.

5. No way! Her true beliefs (at least before she got involved in NYpolitics) |
|
seemed to me to be extremely liberal back in the First Lady days. After all, our first introduction to her was from the Clinton health care plan, which you recall was basically a single payer system. That's liberal! Never hear about that anymore.
Movement to the right... Well frankly I think she looks at polls and makes up her mind based on what she thinks is popular, which after 9/11 is war is good. A case in point is Israel and the Likud and the American Israeli lobby. Her position was unknown prior to her run for NY Senator and I feel that she has become an ardent Zionist and completely lost all perspective on the Israel-Palestinian conflict. That is a prime example of moving right.
Her support of the Iraq war makes her basically a hair left of Liebermann.
When she was running with Bill in 1992 it was common knowledge that she was more liberal than Bill was. What happened to that woman?

11. I don't think she supported the war any more than Kerry or other |
|
Democracts did. Let's face it, most of our party voted to give Bush the clearance to go to war. Clinton has questioned how Bush went about the war although she hasn't been as critical as most of us would like her to be.
I agree with you that she is more to the right than I would like her to be; however, I still think this has been consistent.
The real issue here is do you want another right wing nut as our president or do you want a logical person? Clinton isn't changing her position on anything but she is setting herself up for a run in 08; this is hardly a bad thing. We have to win in 08; we will not be able to do this if we have someone on the far left running. The important thing is to get someone that can find common ground with the American people on aborotion and religion and I think Clinton would be good at this. Sure, we might not agree with everything but keep in mind; we can not afford another right wing nut as our president and I am willing to compromise some positions if we can avoid that.

14. How can you say she has been consistent? Don't you percieve her |
|
dramatic move to the right that began exactly and precisely on the day she decided to run for NY Senator? I don't wan't another Clinton who flaps with the latest wind and who you can be assurred will sell out -your- special interest when those political winds change!
I still mad about Bill Clinton's:
1) Sell out of the gay s in the military
2) Screw up of the National Health Care...(Hillary has to bear some responsibility here)
My two issues... Up in SMOKE within the first year.

17. I am perfectly aware that the Clinton's made a terrible political mistake |
|
by putting the two most divisive issues front and center first thing in 1992. Thus splitting the Democrats and having the SHORTEST honeymoon with Congress in US history. Loosing the midterms in 1994 were another consequence of it. If politics is like chess, the Clintons don't know how to play well.

22. and also seemingly unaware ... |
|
that the Democratic Party ran like punks when it became politically burdensome to support something that might have actually worked. If one is ever going to handle such an issue, there is no particular time better than another. To believe that there is some magical time outside of the first hundred days is historically inaccurate.
The '94 midterm loss was the result of the Economic Recovery Act of 1993, the plan that eventually put us into prosperity and the longest economic expansion in history. The gop spun up their might wurlitizer of bullshit and hoodwinked the American people into thinking that the medicine was bad for them because it had a bitter aftertaste.
I think your dismissal of the political skills of the Clintons might ring a little more substantial after you share your bona fides with us. Clinton's: he won two presidential elections.
You?

24. This isn't about me! Don't get personal... If we are both Democrats |
|
isn't okay for us to discuss the Clintons with out you resorting to a personal attack?!! piss me off... whatever. Democrats are doomed mostly because we can't even discuss issues without overturning the whole table.
Clintons are great at getting elected, at least Bill was nationwide and Hillary is in NY. I don't think Hillary will play well in the South for one thing, which is why -I believe- (and so do a whole bunch of other people) Hillary is a bad choice.

Welfare Reform
FCC reform - what a disaster that has been
The Clinton 'legacy' is the Republican 'legacy' at least legistlatively.

25. Clinton was one of the best presidents ever.... Just a complete |
|
doofus when it comes to legistlative acheivements that will help common folks. My beef with him and Hillary is in their lack of follow through on promises to the left wing of the party and their deal making with the right, thus only the right wing deals got done.
So before you flame me again.. wanna know what I liked about Clinton.
1) Foreign Policy.. Kosova... Israel.. man he got close and really tried.
2) The Deficit.. Hello? that was a very good thing. Taxes A legistlative acheivement here... TOTALLY reversed immediately by Bush, ergo not a lasting acheivement, but totally admirable. Thus Clinton is a great president and Bush is a crappy one. But I can still disagree with him, eh?
3) He was beloved by the world and so was the USA back then.
SO I forgive him TOTALLY FUCKING EVERYTHING ELSE I previously enumurated and setting the stage for a Bush victory in 2000 because he was so great.

|
In 08 if Hillary is our best choice to win I am voting for her. If we have to compromise a few issues I am perfectly ok with it; the bottom line is we need to win and risking that because you don't like the Clintons or whatever would be a huge mistake.

I just wish she would stop being my senator as well.
Hillary is as polarizing as Bush. The right will never let another Clinton serve as President. If they did, they would do nothing but attempt to bring her down. Impeaching another Clinton would be their prize.
Either way, no one would be acting to benefit the Nation.

She went right. She's not right for the job. She's a disappointment. She's a mystery.
Anyone who is demonstrably liked by the cabal-media voices is worrisome. It is either their ploy to get her out there and let the evangelicals destroy her or she leans right.
She appears to be leaning right. I want to scream whenever I think about her voting for the killing in Iraq and her continuing support for what is in reality - support for Bush and the right wing cabal.
I never ever thought I would be taking this position against her.
I was her fanatical defender for over a decade.

|
the nomination is her's to lose. She has a constituency of her own along with many Democrats especially in the African-American community who would love another Clinton in the WH. I think young activist women would also strongly support her for the nomination. This is not an endorsement on my part for Hillary, just a belief that I think she can be nominated.

I believe Kerry potentially could still be a thorn in Hillary's side. I think Bayh is definitely looking at it--and he might get some of the moderate, midwest-southern vote based on his record and region of the country he lives in. There might be one or two others such as Edwards and Richardson who might also make a difference.

Partly because it's so obvious that she's running for president. Why elect someone to the senate so they can spend their term running for president? It's insulting and she will lose because of it.
