Go Christine. She was a Dean Dozen, and we supported her in her run. She is already setting up and has a diary at Kos today on her run.
Here is her Kos diary:

You Have to Run Twice (IL-06)
by Christine Cegelis
Tue Mar 8th, 2005 at 18:05:52 EST
In September of 2003 I made a decision that would forever change my life. I had spent some time soul searching about the direction of the country and how it would affect the lives of my children and others in their generation. It seemed critical to me that we needed a better Congress. We needed a Congress that was willing to protect the environment, invest in our future through education, new technologies, and economic development. My current Congressman, Henry Hyde, did not seem willing to vote for any legislation that furthered these goals.
So I decide to run for that seat (IL-06). I received two pieces of advice: don't run if don't have $500,000 of your own money to put into the race, and don't run if you don't plan to run twice. I didn't have the money but I did make the commitment to run twice.

SNIP.."I ran to win the first time but I was honest with myself that this could be the first year of a three year campaign cycle. I always kept in mind that I would be building for the future."

Here is her website:

And from her 1st campaign her picture with Howard Dean.

1. Hyde is getting really old
In 2006 he'll be pushing 82.

Even if he stands for another term this time, Cegelis will be in great shape to take the seat when it is open.

2. There is a key point here
Christine is making her second run at the seat. That is so important. She can build upon her volunteer base and name recognation she gained in the first race.

I think most challengers in tough districts make one run at the seat and then are never heard from again.

3. You're right. And Richard Morrison is going up against DeLay again.

Richard was Dean Dozen as well. I hear there are others considering a 2nd run, and I think it is wonderful.

4. This is how Melissa Bean beat Phil Crane in IL
She ran and lost in 2002, but then ran again and won in 2004. Like Hyde, Crane was old and out of touch. Hopefully Cegelis will follow this route to Congress.

Hyde has it coming to him for the role he played in Clinton's impeachment. But getting Hastert out would be the bigger prize, IMO.

5. We need to Gerrymander Hastert out of his district
Teach that fucker a lesson for what the GOP did in Texas and is doing in Georgia.
