wage? How does it square to make it more difficult to give the working poor this kind of help and then refuse to raise the minimum wage? The minimum wage in a country as rich as this is really a sin and a disgrace.

1. Not to worry

the administration will be proposing the reestablishment of poorhouses.

2. I recommended for 'Greatest' because of simplicity.
Why is it that we (as a nation) revel in the complex and undefinable, yet revile the simple and understandable?

There are so many injustices out there, this is our way to vent.
This admin, why don't they do a lot of things? Don't get me started, but PNAC comes to mind...

4. They,
measure their own power and greed not only by what they can grab for themselves, but also by what they can deny to others?

5. Good point.
Most GOP Senators (with the help of some Democrats) don't really care about the average working person. As long as they get their inflated salaries and excellent benefits they thumb their noses at the "little people."

I have to believe that someone/anyone 'gets' us. Your scenario is just too depressing.

Edit to add: Ruth, get with the program! I DO see the powers that be, and I wonder. Are they in it for us or for them? And that goes for a host of people we thought were on 'our' side. Bankruptcy amendments, for the most part, shot down. Scares the hell out of me about SS.
