Congressional proponents of drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge will likely try to slip a provision opening the refuge to drilling into the upcoming budget bill (perhaps as early as this Wednesday.) Tell your senators and representative to keep Arctic Refuge drilling provisions out of the budget bill.

5. I say we let them screw up anwr, and when gas is still 2.50/gal
we make commercials asking where's the beef.

6. Okieinpain, you're kidding, right?
If we allow drilling in ANWR, there will be no wilderness areas left undrilled or unmined in the entire country.

We must stop this rape of our wilderness areas. This is about short-sighted greed, not about meeting our energy needs.

7. nope I'm not kidding. america is getting like a little spoiled kid,
who has eddie haskell for a friend. they are never going to learn until it right up front in their face. if we (dems) stop anwr drilling that's all you're going to hear in 06, "gas is high, because the tree lovers won't let us drill in anwr".

and guess what the sheeple will eat it right up, and the (liberal) media will play right along with the game.

8. Your frustration is very understandable, but your remedy is unacceptable.
We Democrats need to emphasize that drilling in ANWR is all about short-sighted greed --giving the green light to sell off all the publicly owned assets, our wilderness heritage, for drilling to Bush's cronies in the oil, gas, and mining industries--while the Bush administration does nothing to lessen our dependence on oil.

It is another Bush flim-flam, and we need to call them on it, before it is too late. The vote in the Senate is scheduled for Wednesday.

9. I agree that dems need to be on record against it, but it's going to
happen and the suv owners will demand it. dems are going to have to pick their fights, you might not like it but it's a reality. the repugs will win this one easily, with 2/gal, people will believe anything that they think will bring cheap prices.

remember 06 is the goal, if we're really interested in stopping bush.

10. I drive an SUV
It's a small one, but it doesn't get great gas mileage.

But I AM NOT demanding ANWR drilling. I am adamantly against it. I sent the email to my rep and Senators.

From what I've read in the past, drilling in ANWR will accomplish little other than lining the pockets of the CEOs of oil drilling companies. Bush's buddies.

Destroying the environment is unacceptable. Even for me to get cheap gas for my SUV. I'd sooner trade it in still owing thousands of dollars on it.

cheap gas. hell to them that's why were in iraq, and that's also why they won't care about invading iran.

11. Let' see, first sell out on banruptcy, then on ANWR..that's a winning
Edited on Mon Mar-14-05 12:12 PM by flpoljunkie
strategy for '06 alright! We cannot regain our majorities in Congress if we cannot differentiate ourselves from the Republicans.

Selling out on yet another basic tenet of our party--protecting our environment--is not the way to win in '06.

13. man, I hate to tell you this. but we got our asses handed to us in 04
Edited on Mon Mar-14-05 12:35 PM by okieinpain
they control all branches of congress, the white house, and the SC. I would prefer that the dems choose their battles carefully. but listening to you guy's they should shoot their wad on everything that comes down the pike.

they can not afford to fight everything, sorry. but they just can't, the repugs got their people out to vote, and we didn't cover our asses on making sure ours would be counted. so that makes them the victors, and us the lossers. they get to set the agenda, dems need to make sure that the consequences are spelled out loud and clear. instead of trying to kill or block every bill they should try to make changes that will help the people no matter how bad the bill.

14. We will continue to lose when voters can't distinguish us from the Rethugs
You think acting more like Republicans and letting them roll over us, is a winning strategy for '06 and '08. It ain't working.

We need to stand up and fight for the average American and to fight for the environment so that our children and grandchildren will have a livable planet. If we don't take a stand and fight for what we believe in, we deserve to continue to lose elections.

15. I don't see anywhere that I said be more repug. dems need to
be selective about what they raise holly hell about. because I can gurantee you this is just the small stuff, we haven't seen shit yet. the repugs are already getting their message machine working on "dems hate president bush", "dems don't have any ideas, just want to oppose bush", "anti-warmongers".

fake vote or not, iraqi's got to vote, fake vote or not, afgan's got to vote. it will not matter if iraq goes to hell, bush got them to vote, the sheeple have more important matters to worry about. so get your head out of the sand, didn't you see where the guy quit american idol.

20. If we lose this, it's all over
That's why they want it so bad. If Democrats can't even come together for their beloved ANWR, then we're a party with no power at all. This is now a fight about Bush's MANDATE. If they win, look the fuck out. Drilling, refineries, coal mining, the country will be ripped right open.

19. Cars use 44% of the oil
Our passenger vehicles, including light trucks, use 25% of the world's oil. Increasing CAFE standards to 40 mpg would reduce our oil usage by 3 million barrels a day.

This is why I get pissed at the left. That's a simple, simple, sound byte and I have never heard it put that simply. That's why we lose.

And while everybody is sitting around pondering and pontificating on framing, there's a frame, but it will just get lost because the right person didn't say it. Another one is Insurance Against Poverty, which the Dem leadership is using and is also being ignored. The grassroots has to use the frame in order for it to work. It's called Staying On Message, which Kerry people screamed about throughout the campaign. But oh fuck no, Dems don't lockstep. Except when it comes to whining about the DLC or the corporate sellouts or whatever other shit that doesn't require action.

Yes, I'm goddamned pissed today at the complete lack of interest in things that are important.
