Speaking of "one-issue" people.... |
|
We allowed "one issue" at a time to be voted for in this party. And each time those who stood up were called "one-issue" people. It is getting old and tiresome.
The Iraq invasion..
The huge tax cuts...
The NCLB bill..
The Medicare Drug bill...
The bankruptcy bill....
Now the issue of a woman's right to handle her own medical decisions on every issue.....even the right to take birth control is on the table by this party.
There is no such thing as a "one-issue" person anymore. These are just a few of many. They went through with the help of our party, and then we are accused of being "one-issue" people.
It is many issues now, and we are still hearing the same ones batter us down for being "one-issue." Disgusting.

Fact is that they're overwhelming us - again - with dozens of different issues. They just come up for a vote one at a time. All the easier to malign the actual opposition.
I've been a "one-issue voter" on 10 or 15 different issues. :D

4. And one-issue voters are being attacked here a lot lately...on many issues |
|
It is very ironic...it only took one issue at a time.

2. Maybe someday our people will realize |
|
that is all connected. It's all about power and money to the opposition.

3. You have a point. They are picking American values apart one by one.. |
|
All of these fall under the broad principles that liberal/progressives believe in. Caring about people, caring about their opportunities to achieve the American dream, protecting the environment for future generations. We understand that government is the way we come together in community to help ourselves and our neighbors to protect our country and our democracy.
United we stand, grow, and prosper, divided...well it looks like some would like to foster division and hate. And to what purpose?

9. And all the while they tell us there are more important things to debate. |
|
I think the lectures that came along on each issue were the worst...don't worry about this, folks, we have bigger fish to fry.
All the things that matter to us as a country have been taken off the table in the spirit of getting along.
No more.

5. I am as disgusted as you are. |
|
Everytime they attack our "single issue" they continue to tear down our Democratic values and party platform.
I swear we should perform a ritual to banish these demons from our midsts.
Go away DLC!! Form your own pary!

6. No, you have our argument wrong. |
|
This has flamed up, I assume, because of Casey Jr in Pennsylvania. We've defended Casey (and others) because though he is pro-choice he is a progressive on many many other issues and has a darned good chance of replacing Santorum. When people like Joe Lieberman and Ben Nelson are attacked, you don't see people coming to their defense as much.

7. More than that. That is just a small start. Using our rights as a tool. |
|
It is about the constant inroads being made on our rights to make a choice. It is about using us as a weapon to win. They are putting our rights on the table, and they should not be.
They are going after birth control and contraceptives now.
18 anti-choice Democrats signed a letter to Dean saying they wanted room at the table.
We are not to be used as a tool or debate.

8. Politicians go where they think the votes/money are. |
|
We make the mistake or thinking that politicians of any stripe are interested in prinicples. The Democrats and Republicans are willing to surrender their priniciples on the drop of a poll or the promise of a check from a lobbyist.
