Former FL GOP boss: Jeb lacks wisdom and maturity to be president |
|
TAMPA - Jacksonville businessman Tom Slade built a reputation in the 1990s as one of the key architects of the Republican political dominance in Florida, and one of the most important political allies of Gov. Jeb Bush.
Slade, chairman of the state Republican Party from 1993 to 1999, said often that getting Bush elected governor was his overriding goal in politics, and he was one of many who speculated on Bush as a possible presidential candidate.
But Slade's view on that may have changed.
In an interview in January, Slade said Bush ``does not have the maturity ... and wisdom'' to be president, and that Bush's administration has been marked by a ``dictatorial'' style and reluctance to take advice. That, he said, could prove a problem for the Republican Party in the future.
He said Jeb Bush and his brother President Bush ``are arrogant as hell.''
Slade made his comments during a wide-ranging interview with University of South Florida political scientist Darryl Paulson for a book Paulson plans to publish on the history of the Florida Republican Party.
<snip>
Paulson said his opinion of Jeb Bush changed over time - ``the perception was that was the inheritor of the throne, so to speak, but it almost appears that George has greater political skills,'' while Jeb Bush displays ``almost like an arrogance.''
Slade responded, ``They are both arrogant as hell. But George W. has the better part of wisdom.
``I finally came to the conclusion after a relatively short period of time that Jeb does not have the maturity to be president of the United States,'' he said. ``He was clearly smart enough, and probably smarter than his brother, but just didn't have the maturity and wisdom to do his brother's job.'' <snip> http://news.tbo.com/news/MGBD715Q86E.html

And yet something tells me that Mr. Paulson will nonetheless be singing in the choir when it comes time for Jeb to run in 2008.

5. More telling quotes from the piece: |
|
Bush ``is obviously bright, he is obviously highly principled,'' Slade said in January's interview, but is ``absolutely and uncompromisingly'' committed to his own ideas ``without any need for or tolerance for any advice. ... He is pretty dictatorial in the way he runs things.''
He said Bush has allowed ``a lot of very young people to assume tremendous areas of responsibility'' in his administration, a positive trait. But, he said, that also resulted in a lack of experienced veterans in positions of power - ``There was not a lot of depth of experience and wisdom. And Jeb doesn't seek advice.''
<snip>
And this little gem:
Asked what could threaten GOP dominance in the future, Slade responded, ``Our own selves'' - particularly if average voters begin to perceive the party or its leaders as ``selfish.''
``If that begins to show, particularly if it begins to show to the detriment of the average voter,'' then the party's fortunes could wane, he said.
Slade said the Florida party faces a potential concern because of Jeb Bush's long dominance over GOP politics.
Bush ``has been such a powerful figure there has not been any room at all for dialogue. That's not helping,'' he said. ``For us to sustain ourselves, the party's got to be a more inclusive party.''
Yep, ruthless selfishness seems to be a well-established trait in these people. It will be their downfall.

7. No surprise they are assholes. Neocons said they needed a |

patrician priss to control. (The priss part is the potty training problem that results in anal issues and sadism). Only prises aspire to rule over fascist regimes and think it is a good thing. And it all boils down to bathroom training. I guess that is why prissy sadists always want a "throne" to sit on while they rule over others in a 'tightly controlled' manner.
What a little patience on Barabara's part could have saved the World. But then again.. I hear Nixon was even more afraid of Barbara Bush than he was of Rumsfield - now that is saying allot.
