Russ Feingold is on the right subject...
the huge debt and the Republican inability to pay for anything. That is the winning issue, I am convinced.

3. absolutely
there are the makings of a huge 2006 backlash against the republicans, on the issue of the deficit.

The main defense the republicans have is to blame 9/11 (Pete Dominici used it this morning on C-span), but that can only take them so far.

6. Voinovich says he does not think their amendment will pass. Republicans
call themselves "conservative", yet most of them are not. They will mark in lock step for Dubya whose aim it is to borrow, tax cut and spend-so that there will be no money to pay for anything other than the Pentagon budget--Eisenhower's military, industrial, and yes, government complex.

It is a sorry legacy to leave their children and grandchildren which Voinovich, to his credit, refuses to be a part of.

7. So far it's only McCain, Snowe, Chafee, and Collins joining Voinovich.

Where are the fiscal conserve Republicans? Answer. There aren't but a handful of fiscally conservative Republicans anymore. The Democrats have become the party of fiscal sanity.

If it is a tie, will Cheney be able to break the tie or will the amendment fail? I think it will fail.

9. Vote was 50-50, a tie, so it fails. A sad day for fiscal sanity.

11. What a shame this bill failed
This bill has been overlooked because of ANWAR, but it was really crucial to try & start a realistic budget process.

13. Loved his analogy
about the diet and how you can change your calorie total every time you have cake and a few beers and it might taste good now, but you'll feel it later!

It was perfect.
