1. Mary Landrieu was the featured speaker |
|
at an Eastside (Seattle area,) Democrats banquet a couple of years back. I told the organizer that I would picket her outside; he kept repeating that we have a "big tent".
I am sorry to this day that I didn't follow through on it.

2. And while you are at it, put roses |

on Bush's and Cheney's and Frist's and all the other Repub doorsteps.
How silly can you be? Drilling in Alaska was a Republican idea, introduced by Republicans in the Senate, and mainly voted in by Republicans.
It doesn't make any sense to concentrate on 3 lonely Dems who would have lost their seats to Republicans if they had voted otherwise. These 3 Dems would not have mattered if Dem voters were as loyal to their candidates as Repubs are to theirs.
Attacking our own instead of the real villains is why this country is being lost to the Repubs' ideas.

4. No, Frances. Voting with the Republicans confuses voters and pisses off |
|
the base. What is Mary Landrieu saving her vote for? We will not continue to be bought off with the prospect of a filibuster by the Democrats of a few Neanderthal judges.
Hell, face it, we are not even sure the Democrats will stick together and stop the destruction of Social Security.

9. It was a sincere question |
|
Have you ever worked in a campaign for a representative? senator? president?
If so, who did you support?
I think that anyone who has ever worked in a campaign understands better the reality of political life.

12. Funny you should ask that question, Frances. Do you work for the DLC? |
|
The reality you seem incapable of grasping is that Democrats are tired of being betrayed by their own party, too many of whom seem to have sold out to the highest bidder--which makes them no better than Republicans who put the interests of corporation above those of their constituents.
Is there no vote you consider important not to be an apologist for?

20. I'll answer your question, Frances |

>I think that anyone who has ever worked in a campaign understands better the reality of political life<
I've been volunteering for local and Presidential campaigns since I was 12. I also formerly held political office. If anyone is going to "understand" "the reality of political life," it's me.
There is a difference between "political life" and one's conscience. If one does not have a conscience, and has repeatedly shown that he or she does not care what their constituents and party think on numerous issues, perhaps one should find another job. I have no idea what possessed the gentlemen from Hawaii to vote the way that they did today. Mary Landrieu has demonstrated repeatedly that she is a Democrat in name only, and her vote to disallow Maria Cantwell's ANWR amendment tells me that she identifies more strongly with corporate interests than with her constituency or with common sense. We must show those like Mary Landrieu the door, sooner than later.
The Democrats are done with "go along to get along". As another writer far more talented than I noted a few months back, the Democrats are acting like an abused spouse. "Ohhhh, I know they'll change! They'll work with us!" No, they WON'T. It is time for the Democratic Party to stand on its hind legs and STOP taking the high road. The Republicans take what they want, and they're not interested in sharing. We are being walked on because there is now NO difference between parties. We will continue to be walked on until the average American sees that yes, there is a positive difference. If the average American wants clean air, clean water, good jobs at a livable wage, a better education for their children, health care for those same children, Social Security, Medicare and the chance to have a life instead of an existence, they will vote Democratic.
We have no other choice than to stand up for what we believe in. If we do not, we are no better than they are.

we should focus our attacks on Republicans. But right now people are feeling a lot of well justified anger at the Dems who broke ranks, and for a lot of us this is a vital issue at the core of our values.

13. Frances...I don't see it your way...they weakened the case for Dems... |
|
Do you know why the heck I and K voted for it - if you don't, then no one else is going to and the people who only read or hear the headlines will think it couldn't be that bad if three Dem Senators wen with the Republicans.
I am so angry at Dem leader ship that I would like to net all of them except Boxer and Kenney in the Senate and toss them to a very far away planet. They are traitors to the country and to Dems.
Despicable.

ANWR and the Bankruptcy bill would never have happened if the Dems didn't vote for it. They have sold us, the country, the citizens, the environment and the wildlife in the wildlife refuge out to oil companies and banks.

They sold all of us out. In the case of ANWR, it's an environmental tragedy that won't be righted. Period. In the case of the bankruptcy bill, wait until those who will never be able to climb out from under crippling medical debt start killing themselves. (Of course, the Republicans will insist that if they had taken "personal responsibility" for their health, they never would have been ill.)

Please tell me how the two Hawaii senators would lose their seats if they voted against ANWR. This I want to hear.
Attacking out own for selling out our core principles should only be the beginning of what happens in this case.

10. But my question is this: |
|
Are these people posting such messages Democrats?
It seems ridiculous for Democrats to be supporting vandalism acts against the only 3 Dems who voted to allow drilling while giving a free ride to the Republicans who are really responsible for the decision.
It would seem to me that people who are truly Democrats would be focusing their anger on Bush. After all, if Bush had not pushed the measure, it wouldn't have passed. And if Gore were in the White House where he should be and the bill passed, he would veto it.
It just isn't logical that people who understand how politics works would be going after three Dems instead of praising the Democratic party for their valiant effort to stop the Republican rape of the land.

19. Are apologists for republican policies really democrats? |
|
I mean, if someone doesn't support the core principles of the Democratic party, are they really Democrats in the first place? To me it seems that people that know how politics works know that they have to solidify their base and then expand. If the party is split on issues such as raping the environment and selling out consumers, then what does it really stand for. Remember, ANWR wouldn't have passed without Democratic support. Debate wouldn't have ended on the bankruptcy bill without Democratic support. The democratic party lost two issues that they could have taken the moral high ground on if the members didn't vote the wrong way.
In 2006 the Democratic party could have run ads saying the republicans sold out consumers and destroyed the environment. Now, the Dems and Republicans can both take credit for that and that's worse for all of us, especially Democratic candidates.
