The Democrats' mistake was in thinking that a disastrous war, national bankruptcy, erosion of civil liberties, corporate takeover of government, environmental destruction, squandering of economic and moral leadership in the world, and systematic Bush Administration lying would be of concern to the electorate.

The Republicans correctly saw that the chief concern of the electorate was to keep gay couples from having an abortion and thereby pulling the plug on our oil and gas supplies from the Middle East and thereby creating more Evil that will Threaten Us.

And there you have it.
