Woman kept from drowning Schaivo
Wow, this is how uninformed these people are... Terri can't swallow and this woman tries to give her water with a water bottle? Wouldn't that have drowned her if she can't swallow?

1. Drowning is remotely possible IMHO. A lot of reflexive sputtering may be
more likely if a gulp or two of water were poured down a relaxed throat.

31. Nice stereotype though
Edited on Tue Mar-22-05 11:49 PM by Freedom_from_Chains
Stereotypes huh, well let’s take a moment an explore that thought.

Recently the Pope had some medical problems and was admitted to the hospital where he had the following comments to make about suffering:

“Shortly after Pope John Paul II was taken to Rome's Gemelli Polyclinic Hospital for a second time within a month for treatment of breathing difficulties, the front page of the Trib had a beautiful picture of a crucifix with a hand reaching toward it in prayerful supplication. The caption read "the Vatican newspaper has suggested (the pope) is sharing in Christ's suffering."

Then his Popeness also had this to say:

““It seems almost appropriate that our Holy Father would be enduring his suffering at this very time of the year. Lent is when the whole Church focuses on the meaning and value of the Lord's suffering, and our own suffering when it is joined spiritually to his.”

And then there is this statement concerning the Gospel of Mark:

“Mark stresses, then, that true power is expressed in embracing human suffering as Jesus did on the cross, and that discipleship means identifying with Jesus in a ministry of expressing God’s power and love by embracing human suffering”.

Introduction to Theology: Thomas Rauch, pg 62

And lets not forget the good Christians in the Philippines who like to nail themselves to a cross around this time of year, which oh yeah, that should be next weekend, now they really no how to do suffering.

So no, Christians love suffering, can’t get enough of it, think everybody should be suffering cause as we all know suffering is what builds truly godly people. Well, that is, as long as it is thrown in with the proper amounts of self-deprecation and loathing, submission to authority, and of course fear, fear of a psychopathic God who is liable to slew you, and maybe a few members of your family and friends for good measure, if you happen to fail to dot the I’s or cross the t’s accidentally some day.

So with a little bit of luck in the next few hours or days, the Christian fanatical’s, which is by definition all Christians although some cloak themselves better than others, will be able to find a court somewhere that will throw out reason in the Terri Schiavo case and maybe they will be able to keep Terri suffering for years.

Why with what modern medicine can do these days after we get the feeding tube back in her, well later, when her lungs shut down, we can hook her up to a ventilator. Then when her kidneys give out; we can roll the dialysis in, and cardio pulmonary complications, no problem, we have machines for that also.

Why the good Christians and there self-rightous hysterical mob could probably keep Terri going for a good 10, 20, maybe even 30 years, right down to where she is just nothing but skin and bones that has turned to feeding on itself.

Now man, that would really be some suffering wouldn’t it? Kind of gives you a hard-on just thinking about it, don’t it?

Decent people need to start taking some serious steps and begin dealing with the Christian problem in this country before they completely destroy it.

22. Ironically, they are preventing Ms. Schiavo from being at peace with
her God--and no amount of pointing this obvious fact out to them seems to work. I've tried...

34. So did you--I think you assume I'm NOT a Christian.
I have a deep admiration for science (I'm living proof of medical advancements), but I do believe in God.

We're on the same side here--let's not go down that road. I respect your beliefs and have no intention of questioning them; I'd appreciate the same respect, thanks. :hi:

12. Yes
I know someone who was killed in a hospital that way.

There were specific orders not to give this person anything orally, because his throat muscles and most of the rest of his body no longer worked. The nurse fed him anyway and that blocked his breathing passage very nicely, thank you. Cause of death - suffocating. Looked good on the death certificate.

18. She's a member of the Catholic Worker...most likely progressive
Seriously, Catholic Workers are usually farther to the left than liberals; the movement was started by Dorothy Day, who was a defender of the poor and a strident critic of the wars in Korea and Indochina.

This woman may have done something stupid, but I doubt she's a rightist. More proof that this is not a Left/Right issue.

20. Not necessarily
There are significant numbers of progressive Christians (like those in the Seamless Garment organization) who diverge from their secular brethren when it comes to abortion and euthanasia, perceiving said procedures and practices as societal evils.

35. I read this morning that Terri had an eating disorder
... which is what caused her heart failure in the first place.

Doesn't that cut right to the heart of the issue ?
Her parents are still trying to control her via food intake/ forcing her to eat - as apparently they did in her early life ?

It's my understanding that women with eating disorders often develop them as a last ditch means of feeling like they have some control in their lives - isn't that the height of irony, that at the very bitter end, her parents are willing to manipulate the SCOTUS into imposing their own will to control Terri, the ultimate in 'control freak-ness' ?
