Recommended reading: Catch 22
If you haven't read this great American novel in a while, a rereading at this point in time will spook you right out.

If you've never read it before, you really owe it to yourself, but it will be disturbing -- fair warning.

1. I read it about 5 times. Major Major Major Major.

What I thought was amazing about that book was that you could open up to the beginning of any chapter, and start reading the book there, and read it around to the beginning..and to the end of the previous chapter, and it would be just as great.

The switching of the input and output bottles of the swathed patient....

Yossarian naked in the tree.

There are literally hundreds of moments.

2. The old Italian in the whorehouse
talking about the Italian strategy of losing short wars and then profiting from peace is especially good reading. If anything points out the sheer idiocy and waste of war, his speech did.

3. Awesome book. Fun to read, great characters, and sobering theme.
One of my favorites.

YOSSARIAN LIVES!

4. And if you haven't seen the movie version (directed by Nichols)...
or haven't seen it in a while, check it out. It's even more amazing. Particularly considering how intricate and surrealistic the plot is. Arkin is great as Yossarian. and a young Jon Voight too.

5. Kick for an excellent book - one of my faves
and the movie is damn good too!

Funny, sad, appalling, bizarre....but pretty easy to read considering.
