Dems introduce the Schiavo Culture of Life Act: |
|
Universal Healthcare for every American...
Wasn't it all the rumblings about a draft that caused the pukes to bring it to a vote?
Why shouldn't the Dems introduce a bill like this and see if the Pukes vote it down?
I've been emailing my representatives, wanna join me? If someone could please post the DU House and Senate email list, I would greatly appreciate it. And don't forget to post any responses you receive here!

Didn't I read recently that GM makes more cars in Canada than they do in the US, primarily because they don't have to pay employee health care costs like they do here in the US... I think the same thing goes for United Technologies - their Pratt & Whitney division that makes airplane engines has a huge presence in Canada.

Since i'm not the most vocal of people, one of my ways of helping out progressive causes is firing off letters & emails.

The argument for off-shoring is that the labor is cheaper. One of the many reasons labor is cheaper is because the employer does not have to pay for employee health insurance. We subsidize farmers, why can't we subsidize other businesses by taking care of their health insurance costs. Universal health care would help American businesses compete better globally and might put a few Americans back to work.
Doesn't it seem strange that in this country, health care should be tied to employment? Everyone needs to be covered. All people get sick. The quality of the health services received should not be tied to the company that has the best compensation package. Everyone should have a minimum level of coverage guaranteed.
Prescription drug prices have gone through the roof. I don't know how much birth control pills cost these days, but in the 1970's I remember paying between $1.75 and $3.00 for a month's supply. Inflation cannot explain the increase in price, and neither can increased costs.
