Sabato: Nelson, Santorum Vulnerable

There are 14 Senate seats where incumbents are vulnerable to losing their re-election battles next year - and among them are Pennsylvania's conservative Republican Rick Santorum and Florida Democrat Bill Nelson.

5. If you mean Santorum...
State Treasurer Robert Casey, Jr. is running against him, officially. Except for a professor from Philadelphia, Chuck Pennachio, the field has been all but cleared for Casey. Reportedly Harry Reid & Chuck Schumer worked with Governor Rendell to convince Casey to give up (at least for the moment) his goal of the governorship to get Casey to run. One of his conditions was that there not be a hard primary. Former state treasurer Barbara Hafer had announced her candidacy but dropped out two days later, when Casey entered, on the advice of Rendell.
