Why are they so afraid of death? |
|
It seems to me, between the Schiavo case and the Pope, for a religion that bases itself on this wonderful life after death that is perfection and utopia, the extreme christian right seems extremely fearful of death. I just heard the pope wants to be kept on life support 'to the end'...WTF?? What is he afraid of? Another thing - if he is so holy, and heaven is so great, why does he have to bulletproof his popemobile? Shouldn't GOD be protecting him, and will take him when he is ready? Just a thought (or two)

I was raised Protestant so I heard of this crap before. When it all comes down, they are really agnostic. They fear that they were wrong and have no idea what will happen. That is why they want to prevent death so they don't have to be reminded of thier own mortality.
As for god protecting them, Pope has been shot so god might not like him or doesn't care. They scream god's protection but again, they don't know and are scared to admit that they don't know.
And they wonder why people don't respect Chrsitianity as they'd like.

they claim how religious and spiritual they are, yet they don't want to think on their own mortality, as if dying is the end of the world.. don't they want to join their Lord?

I mean I dont even consider myself christian anymore - pretty much agnostic - but I still think that whatever is to come is just the next stage in this journey....this is just a pitstop...who am I to stay longer than I am supposed to? Thinking back to when I was younger and WAS catholic, I was even MORE inclined to accept the next life, as it was always promised to be this utopian promised land. These people are weird.

4. What I find most amusing ........ |
|
...........is how all these "professional Christians" like to run their mouths about the sanctity of life, which is shorthand for "Please, God, make sure I never die," but lack the intelligence needed to see that those terrorists who flew those planes into the Pentagon and the WTC and PA were much more committed to their actual religious beliefs.

10. OTOH, maybe they do. I think that they are so consumed by the |
|
myth of original sin, that they believe in their innermost souls that they haven't been good enough, which means when they die they will go straight to hell.
I've always thought that those "In case of Rapture, this vehicle will be without a driver" bumper stickers kind of smack of desperation.

Apparently God made us to die - Jesus was born to die if you believe the dogma - we would not be saved if Jesus didn't die and that's because life went on after death - you can't die - you can only change circumstances. All that lives, lives - nothing to be afraid of!

so they see god as mean, vindictive, shallow, and insecure as in the OT. It scares the bejeezus out of them.

16. They talk the talk, but don't walk the walk |
|
They're politicians or public relations spokespeople for politicians. It's a bunch of propaganda because if they were real Christians they wouldn't put a comatose woman on tv or the family thru this media circus. They are using this terrible situation to attack the "liberal courts" which was probably their objective all along. They are so stupid they don't even see the contradiction in prolonging the life of a body to their own belief in eternal life for the soul. Maybe they see it but think that most people won't. I question their motives as I'm sure most Americans do. I just hope people have wised up since the election to their ways of misleading our country to achieve their agenda which is a litmus test for judges to abide by their wishes. Also, if they keep Americans engrossed in emotional issues like abortion, gay marriage, and death, we won't ever see on tv the real problems in this country nor will we ever make any progress in the areas that the Democratic party has more strength.

20. Animals fear death too |
|
But if these Evangelicals believe they are going to heaven and everyone else goes to hell, why be scared? Animals are scared to die but they accept it when it comes (unless attacked and they fight like hell).
