"Former Democratic presidential candidate Howard Dean — now chairman of the national Democratic National Committee — will speak at a Naples political event April 18.

Dean will be keynote speaker for a Collier County Democratic Club dinner at the Naples Beach Hotel, DNC spokeswoman Laura Gross said Monday. Tickets are $100 each, and about 450 seats are available, although some have already been sold.

Florida’s Democratic Party leaders were among Dean’s earliest supporters for the party leadership position, and this Florida visit also is expected to be a nod of appreciation for that support.

Other Democratic Party officials, including candidates for governor, and other top state offices, also have been invited to the event.
The dinner also is pulling Democrats from Lee County.

“I got two tables as soon as I heard about it,” said Will Prather, a Fort Myers businessman and political fund raiser who backed Dean’s presidential bid.

“I’m very enthusiastic about seeing him again.”

3. It sucks, I know
especially as he is speaking in one of the Dean heartlands. However, all the money he is raising is raising his ( and our ) face within Democratic circles.

4. Oh,stop. The 5000 is a different level.
If 200,000 Democrats donated 100 each, they would not have to have such levels. That would make 20 million right there.

But Democrats would rather withhold support from the party instead of getting into the fray and donating to make their voice heard.

5. If you are in those areas, check with your local party.
He usually has a smaller, less expensive meeting with people if the party cooperates. He did it in MS and in TN, and I believe most everywhere.
