Is Jeb Bush finished?
Edited on Sun Apr-03-05 02:22 AM by Heaven and Earth
Of all the possible Republican presidential candidates, he is the one that scares me the most.

So, my question is: Has Jeb's political future died with Terri Shiavo?

(I know he says he won't run. I trust him about as far as I could throw a birthday cake underwater)

5. They both scare me
Edited on Sun Apr-03-05 02:15 AM by morcatknits
However, I do think Jeb is more dangerous, and I'm willing to bet that he's not finished. They'll probably trot him out for the funeral of the Pope, in addition to shrub, and he will wind up rehabilitated before long. I hope I'm wrong, but that's my prediction.

6. Frist has two things against him
Edited on Sun Apr-03-05 02:30 AM by Heaven and Earth
1. He's a senator. Senators do not win presidencies. Two in modern times. That's a powerful jinx, and I don't think he is the man to overcome it.

2. He is a cat-killer. Murdering animals that are considered pets is powerful on a visceral level. People instinctively recoil in horror. If we refer to him as the catkiller with every breath, he'll fold like a lawn chair.

on edit: 3. If he invokes the nuclear option, the public will hate that.

33. Interesting that Kennedy and Harrison
are the only two presidents who were almost exclusively senators (military command experience notwithstanding).

I don't know Harrison from a hole in the ground, but Kennedy had MOUNTAINS of charisma, like some unholy combination of Reagan, Clinton, and who knows who else.

Listening to his old speeches, he sounds incredibly resolute and speaks in very simple, but powerful soundbites.

That's what we need to return to.... someone who can take project a moral vision.

14. I suspect -- or maybe I just hope -- the nation will be quite tired. . .
if not fed-up with Bushboys by 2008. George W's a grating personality, and as he loses the veneer of support he's enjoyed so far, the people will be less enchanted with him with every further blunder he commits. . . and I believe we'll see a lot of them in the coming years.

15. Jeb will run in 2012. He knows that "Bush fatigue" will prevent him from
winning in 2008. Besides, Jeb has already said, "Read my lips. I will not run in 2008." He didn't shut the door for future campaigns after 2008, but he pretty much shut the door in 2008. IMO, he's not as good a candidate as George W. Chimp boy is seen by many as down-to-earth and folksy, kind of the anti-Washington politician. Jeb is an intellectual, more like his father. He can come off as snobbish at times, and that will hurt him. I wouldn't be surprised, though, if he challenged Bill Nelson in 2006 for a Senate seat.
