I think he would be a very good president were he elected. That being said, I think the fact that he's Jewish would ensure that he could never be elected president. Does anyone know how this affected his Senate runs? I would be curious to know how he overcame this in a purple state like Wisconsin.

1. Unlike Lieberman he hasn't worn his religion on his sleeve. |
|
When I last visited his website it didn't make specific mention of his religion.
I didn't and I don't think the people of Wisconsin generally considered this a particularly important issue.

2. Senate is different from President- |

While a state may be happy to elect their qualified Senator regardless of race, religion etc., a lot of people in this country are still bigoted narrow-minded assholes and won't vote for Jew, an African American, a strong woman- so I think he'd have a hard time. John Kerry's father was Jewish (and his brother, Cameron, is in fact a practicing Jew)- didn't hear that talked about much, did you? And it was almost a miracle that John Kennedy, a - gasp- CATHOLIC- was elected President. WASP men have ruled the country for a long time, and it's going to be some years before that ends, affirmative action and "tolerance" notwithstanding.

On this board about the possible Jewish bigotry. There are only 2 groups who I can see this hurting him with. Those 2 being Muslims are bigots. The Muslim community here in Wisconsin love him because of his vote against the Patriot Act so that pretty much nullifies any possible bigotry in that group. In terms of the bigots they won't vote for us anyway so screw them

4. It's pretty much been a non-issue here in Wisconsin |
|
At least I've never heard anyone ever bring it up, not even in conversation.
