Red Lake teachers return to halls - Star Tribune

BEMIDJI, MINN. -- This morning will be the first chance most Red Lake High School teachers have to return to the school building since gunshots echoed through the halls two weeks ago. It will be an important step in their healing, according to Janet Nelson.

The 42-year-old biology teacher was allowed back in the school Friday. FBI agents, who had balked at feeding her tarantula, Harriet, escorted her to her classroom so she could remove a 6-foot Norfolk pine tree and an aquarium of frogs, snails and fish.

"For those teachers who are ready, it will be the first opportunity as a group to begin to find some closure," Nelson said Sunday from her Bemidji home. "The building is very, very cleaned up. Yes, there are still bullet holes. But the smell is gone. And the classroom where most of the shooting took place is gutted.

"There's no evidence something tragic happened. If you didn't know, someone would have to explain it to you."

1. That must have been sad.
And this sounds like more kids knew about it. Heartbreaking.

I visited the Reservation years ago, it was like a small depressed/poverty stricken town where everyone is related somehow. Weise actually shot a few of his own cousins and Jourdain (the alleged accomplice) was also said to be a cousin to Weise. Thus, ironically some of the people who mourned at the funerals of their own children, also attended Jeff Weise's funeral.

The whole thing is so crazy, it's my guess no one took this kid seriously?
