he'll point out the Pope believed in forgiving all "youthful indiscretions"-especially those committed at the green age of fifty-something. ;-)

3. This is a bit surreal, granted, but I have a gnawing hunch -- |
|
Edited on Wed Apr-06-05 01:24 PM by Old Crusoe
-- that the spirit of Jack Ruby somehow is living inside Henry Hyde's body.
Can't account for it at all, but the feeling remains with me.
I think Henry Hyde is the Congressional equivalent of a footstool.

11. Hi, rodeodance. On Hyde. I get a sense from him -- |
|
-- that although he is a staunch Catholic and maybe even a pre-Vatican I Catholic (!) , he is somehow conflicted in his truer self, and knows that he's a public servant enforcing outdated legislation and punitive legislation, for that matter. He's a very conservative Republican, even among conservative Republicans.
The adultery matter runs counter to his staunch loyalty to the tenets of the Roman Catholic Church, and I am locating the spirit of Jack Ruby, a low-rent strip-bar owner in Dallas, inside his body.
I SAID it was a surreal observation, but the feeling stays with me.

13. Thanks for the memo-but I think Hyde truly believes in his legislation- |
|
such as the Hyde amendment which forbid any funding AID to countries who advocate abortions.

14. I think you are right about his believing that. |
|
I just wish he could understand that reproductive freedom, including birth control measures and technologies, as well as AIDS support and other medical provisions, are not ever his domain to control.
I will admit that my anti-Hyde feeling is rooted partly in his stubborn refusal to drop the articles of impeachment on Bill Clinton. I'm not a Bill Clinton Democrat, but I felt Hyde's maneuvers against him in the Congress were really lame and unfair.

5. Isn't Hyde the one that had the "youthful indiscretions?" |
|
I'm amazed Hyde isn't on a plane right now w/Bush to the Vatican to pay his respects in person.
