* booed at funeral for Pope
People really do hate him

When Bush's face appeared on giant screen TVs showing the ceremony, many in the crowds outside St. Peter's Square booed and whistled.

also...........

Before the funeral on Friday morning, Bush planned to tape his weekly radio address for airing on Saturday. McClellan said the pope's life and legacy would be the subject.

Bush was then flying to Texas, where he was to spend the weekend on his ranch near Crawford. His father was accompanying him on Air Force One. Clinton was taking a backup Air Force plane back to the states. ( Clinton must be tiring of the "closeness" of the bush gang)

It was titled "A fly on the wall of AF1" and had Poppy pointing out all of Bill's highpoints of his presidency!
Anyone else hear it?

27. Interesting points. 'Both have beaucoup merit, I think.
I'd be willing to bet the petty, arrogant, self-absorbed schmuck was sitting there all through it, wondering how big HIS funeral would eventually be, and could he top this, and shouldn't it be his due, and how much of the pomp and circumstance he might be able to rip off for his own ego-gratification. He was probably making mental notes. I doubt he ever reached the point of reflecting on how small his stature was in comparison with the truly great.

There was greatness everywhere. The deceased. The ages-old rituals and traditions. The magnitude, ardor, and devotion of the crowds. The who's who of the dignitaries and international VIPs. And there, in the midst of it, is LITTLE george. VERY little george.

I don't know if he even is conscious enough to feel out of his league. I'm not sure he's even capable of that. I think this is a guy whose growth was stunted (gee, THANKS, bar) at maybe age 5, 6, or 7, when one's universe is simply "me, me, me." He was probably just sitting there, getting bored, mind wandering, and disappointed that he didn't get EVERYTHING he wanted. A front-row seat. His girlfriend at his side, too... "it sure woulda been nice to be able to sit between 'em and hold both their hands in my hour of need here with all this emotion and stuff, wouldn't it? Specially since it's draggin' on like this. Christ, can't they speed it up? I got one of them Roman bath things and a massage scheduled as long as I was gonna be in town. Well, I guess they'll wait for me. It's not that often they get to work on a PRESIDENT. And why'd that Clinton have to be here? Shit, did we REALLY have to bring him along? Asshole just tryin' to upstage me AGAIN. WHO does he think HE is, anyway?!?!? Well, at least that annoying damned old fart Jimmy Carter wasn't here. I can only handle one of them damned Democrats at a time. I'm sure glad we kept him out of it. Condi? Where are ya, gal? Lean in so I can see ya. Damn, where's Turd Blossom? He shoulda been here, too, but I had to be satisfied with Andy Card. OOOOH - wait a minit... cameras are on me! There! That's more like it. How's my hair? Uh... hmm... lotta crowd noise all of a sudden - wonder what that is that they're sayin'?"

49. Maybe I should have added ..."TRYING to make mental notes."
Or I guess I could have left off the word "notes" and just left him making mental.

Man, watching all the recaps through the evening - he's even more of a lightweight than he seemed earlier. Like a teeth-marked styrofoam cup on a table full of Waterford crystal goblets. Yes, America. THAT'S who officially represents us to the rest of the world. Happy now?

Edited on Fri Apr-08-05 09:50 AM by flordehinojos
...the stupid MSM always protecting/enabling/defending/taking-up/and propagating the bush neocon propaganda.

I watched CNN for most of the funeral mass this morning... i wonder if when Christianne Amanpour said "what example to world leaders that masses of people can come together to have their voices heard without disruption and in peaceful demonstrations" (or something to the effect because i may be paraphrasing some of it) she was in fact STICKING IT TO THE BUSH BOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also, when Anderson Cooper said, let's pause for a minute and listen to the bells, as the bells started ringing when the casket of Pope was being brought to the square, in my heart i applauded him. I thought that was quite sensitive and on the mark!

AND......DID YOU OR ANYONE OUT THERE NOTICE THAT CLINTON BECAME MZ. CONDOLIAR LICE'S ESCORT? THEY SHOVED HER ON TO HIM. THE BUSH BOY HAD TO MAKE ALL HIS APPAREANCES IN UNITY WITH LAURA. POPPY SEEMED LIKE HE NOT ONLY DID NOT WANT TO BE THERE, HE LOOKED LIKE HE DIDN'T WANT TO HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH MZ. CONDOLIAR... AND SO... WHO DID THEY PAIR HER WITH? YEP... GOOD OLE CLINTON whom they are all probably stabbbing in the back by now.

BOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHH BUSH BOY!

19. Republicans booed at a funeral?
Gee, the last time something like that happened, the media went ballistic and couldn't stop talking about it for weeks! I wonder if the Catholics will be in for the same Republican approbation as the Democrats got after Wellstone's memorial service?

Wait, what am I saying? The Republicans are set to "High Pander" right now with the Catholics, trying desperately to don John Paul's mantle and appear to be the Vatican's bestest friend. Ignoring, of course, all that unpleasantness about the Pope's views on the distribution of wealth, the death penalty, and illegal wars of conquest and occupation.

I mean who in their right mind acturally likes little Georgie Bush, this guy as reign as the President, has not only ruined this country, but has also stained the whole world with his illegal wars and such. No likes this country anymore because of Bush, and we are seen as arrogant assholes who have no respect for any country. It's too bad no one threw an egg at him.

29. Sheesh, a friend of mine just dropped by to visit - he's from Mexico, and
he was talking about that once the subject of "watching the Pope" came up (as it did, straight away, of course, on a day like this). He was surprised - but also not surprised - when I told him I'd been reading online stories here about bush getting booed and whistled at the funeral. He started shaking his head, saying how bush has ruined America's reputation around the world - the world hates us. Everybody hates us now because of him. People hate Americans in his home country. He said in Cancun they don't want Americans there. Even while they need the tourism, they still hate us and don't want us there.

Gee, THANKS, george. And FUCK YOU. They hate you, correctly so - you sure did earn that hatred. And I'm with them. I hate you, too.

53. Aside from the obvious reasons
...the war, his arrogant attitude, his failure to work with the UN instead of simply complaining about them...we can't forget that business with the Italian journalist whose James Bondian Italian hero bodyguard was killed by US troops on the airport road in Baghdad. Those folks in the piazza hadn't forgotten. And it is unlikely that they will anytime soon.

I think the reason they stopped showing him on the jumbotron was for the simple reason that the ceremony was NOT about HIM. It wasn't censorship--he saw the camera pointed his way, and he heard the reaction of the crowd. Point made. No need to belabor the obvious.

But he knew how he'd be received, already. He went from armored car to secure location to armored car to the venue, and then to AF1. Clinton, on the other hand, strolled the streets, chatted people up, stopped for coffee, and had a fine time going out and about.
