Has Feingold marginalized himself ? |
|
I know , what a dumbass question. Nobody has been marginalized at this point. It's a long way to '08 and we better focus on a unified front against these thugs in '06 before we spend a lot of time dismissing our own .

2. I hope he has not done that, and don't think he has. |
|
He's an awfully bright soul & I think he will surprise many people, including many Democrats.
I'm kind of in the camp of those who think we SHOULD be thinking about 06 and 08 right now, but not just those two elections, but well past that into the next decade.
A 10-16-year trajectory strategy would serve the party well in terms of financing and grassroots organization.

3. I think there is a back story there |
|
And who knows what it is, or who is involved. But this isn't just a simple "growing apart." Most politicians do the European thing in that case, if neither cares, they just carry on smartly (more so if there are kids involved).
Look at Jeb and Columba--she spends more time in Mexico City than she does in FL. She can barely speak english anymore, she learned it late and never uses it. But hey, Catholic, letting it ride, living quietly apart, she shows up when needed for big events, does her own thing when not. Accomodation...it happens all the time.
SOMETHING is driving this train, and I doubt it is as simple as it appears.
But I do think he is marginalized, and most likely by choice. If the couple are such great friends still, she'd play the game just to help a good friend out if he was serious about going for the brass ring. A decision was made, and it was deliberate. We'll just have to stay tuned.
Russ is one wife shy of Newt, so what the hey...

Russ and Newt is that his splits were both amicable. Newt left his wife on her deathbed. Big difference. I don't know what the stroy is, if I were to guess I think he's trying to raise his profile to get on the Presidential ticket in 08 whether it be on the top or as VP and she has no interest in being a first or second lady

13. If she doesn't have the drive or will |
|
to go through a Presidential election, now would be the time for them to split. Rather than letting it happen in the middle of the campaign or during his term in office. Running for President is very difficult and if their marriage isn't strong it would either drive them closer together or force them apart. A marriage of convenience won't hold up under the pressure and scrutiny of a modern Presidential campaign.

But I bet it will be lost on many people and instead there will be more pissing matches. I really do prefer I like so and so because type threads and I don't mind how many there are or how many different Democrats people want to praise, if that is what they feel.
And for the record, again, I like Feingold just fine.

15. To make a point about a post from yesterday . |
|
I think this rush to choose up sides for '08 leads to some very counterproductive activities , especially when it results in the belittling of our own . I was for Clark in '04 but could have supported any of the others enthusiastically. (OK not so enthusiastically if it had been Lieberman).I believe that our focus should be on the Republican Congress and its agenda of class warfare. Our chances in '08 go up exponentially if we can take back one or both Houses. Then whoever the nominee is will benefit from a unified Party that has made aggressive and effective use of the subpoena power.

9. People vote for conviction |
|
If Feingold did anything to hurt himself it was voting against renewing the assault weapons ban. People don't want a politician who acts like they're basing their votes on polls and what is most likely to get them elected President. Hear that Hillary?

And I'm saying his vote on assault weapons damages him more than his divorce because it compromises his biggest asset as someone with strong conviction. Half of all marriages end in divorce. It doesn't marginalize him at all.

17. Why does the AWB compromise his convictions? |
|
He believes it sucks as a law, so he voted against it. In point of fact, it really does suck as a law, largely because of bad "mechanics" - complience with the ban is the same thing as evading it, etc.

16. Not really. I was just using this to tweak a post from yesterday. |

Feingold remains a viable candidate but he like everyone else has weaknesses that can be exploited.I think we need to stop writing off our own guys and focus on the thugs that have hijacked our government.
