GOP national chair avoids question about his sexuality
I must admit, I would just enjoy this way too much if it turns out to be true.

AKRON, Ohio - " have asked a question people shouldn't have to answer," said Republican National Committee chair Ken Mehlman to a reporter asking if he is gay.

<snip>

Mehlman managed the Bush-Cheney 2004 campaign and, according to the campaign's Ohio co-chair, Secretary of State Ken Blackwell, directed Ohio anti-gay activists to mount the campaign to put the Issue 1 marriage ban amendment on the ballot.

Internet bloggers have pointed out that if Mehlman, 38, unmarried and never with female companionship, is gay, he is a hypocrite.

Activist and blogger John Arovosis says Mehlman should be outed if he is gay because "Mehlman has already said publicly that the gay issue is fair game for politics. If it is fair game, then the same rules apply to him."

1. He's one of my top suspects for Gannon/Guckert's sugar daddy
and we know there had to be one to bypass the FBI and Secret Service background checks to get a male prostitute into the corridors of power.

9. Actually, I think being a male prostitute
is a qualification for high level clearance these days.

2. Wouldn't that be a hoot?
The GOP National Chair outted as a gay man. The Religious Right's party being lead by a gay man. If there is a god out there somewhere then he's laughing at them right now.

3. What is the evidence for Mehlman's alleged homosexuality?
I sure hope it's something more than being 38 and unmarried. Because, by that definition, I would be gay. Which I'm not. Not that there's anything wrong with that, of course. I just think it's a flimsy premise for determining someone's sexual orientation.

Has he actually been seen hanging out in gay bars like Matt Drudge? Does he share a house with his "personal assistant" like David Drier? Does he have allegations of "solicititation" in his past like Jeff Christie aka Rush Limbaugh?

Is there any other basis for the rumor besides the man's age and lack of marital status?

When was the last time you heard any Repuke, much less a Repuke leader reply that no one should have to answer questions regarding their sexual preference?????

This is a very common theme. Check out the history of Hitler's Brownshirts.

Also check out Rove's comments about his first pheromone-laced encounter with the Cheerleader. Obvious.

12. when Karl met George
Edited on Wed Apr-13-05 01:02 AM by arewenotdemo
The incident marked the genesis of the Rove-Bush axis and it was in Washington that Rove met the younger Bush. He fell, politically speaking, in love. "Huge amounts of charisma, swagger, cowboy boots, flight jacket, wonderful smile, just charisma - you know, wow," Rove recalled years later.

13. This is OLD news, it is an open secret
The rumor mill has been churning for months. Signorele even asked him about it on the air...he stumbled and refused to respond. People who were talking before he got the chairmanship have since refused to go on the record. Links to some of the commentary, to start you off:

Unless someone with firsthand knowledge goes on the record, or he does a McGreevey, the stonewall method will continue. That doesn't stop people from continuing to ask him about it, though.
