with too much opposition. The failure of the health care plan wasn't Hillary's fault because the insurance lobby, the Republicans and other special interests fought it tooth and nail.
One day, the time will be right and everybody will be covered by health insurance.

What you are replying to was a snipe at Hillary.
It goes like this:
If Hillary had NOT proposed the healthcare plan - BAD Hillary! But she did and it didn't get passed for the reasons you mentioned - BAD Hillary!
When the far left and the far right goes after the same person, you know he/she would fit right in with average Americans.

It takes more than "political brilliance" to get elected -- CHARISMA goes a long way, and Hillary's genetically deficient. BILL wasn't, but she is.
I say anyone listening to what the Repugs are selling regarding Dems and what they should or ought to do is .... actually, DU rules don't quite allow me to say what I think of them.

24. I am skeptical of the power of the GOP base. |
|
The GOP does know how to motivate the base, but they revved up the base into overdrive last time and in the process lost moderates and nearly lost the election. All this for an incumbent wartime President. Part of what saved Bush was that he did fairly well among women (IIRC - correct me if I'm wrong). Also: they will rev up the base against anyone we run. Which candidate of ours is so flawless that he/she could escape their machine? It is something we will just have to deal with, because they'll either find the flaw in our candidate or make one up.
I'm not sold on Hillary but I think she would run a far, far, far superior campaign to Kerry. She would win a large portion of the female vote. Finally, I believe she has high favorability among New York Republicans. Are these not the same type of old-school conservatives who give the GOP its tiny edge in the West?

35. I'm not so certain about her winning a large portion of the female vote. |
|
You know, during this last eletion, Kerry and Bush were nearly TIED in the women's vote category. Kerry was ahead, but only sightly. That tells me that there are, unfortunately, more than enough women out there who will vote against their financial and economic stability to either appease their husbands and/or because they're one-issue voters and hate "those awful abortions."
Just a thought.

43. True, they are not solid Democrats like they used to be. |

However, I think Hillary would outperform Kerry among women; I would hope she would run a better campaign and speak to them and their desire for financial stability as well as security in a more effective way.

Hillary could easily win. We are buying the "Hillary is too divisive" mantra from the right. IF they were so sure she was a pushover they wouldn't be saying anything hoping the dems nominate her. She is far more popular than many think, and I think she would most likely win!

40. I'm not buying the mantra from the right - I'm buying it because of |
|
my interactions with people, locally, who don't like Bush, but hate Hillary more so.
In fact, I think the Republicans want her to run because they have a 13-year (by the 2008 elections, a 16-year) head start on sullying her.

21. I don't think Hillary can or should be dismissed as some here would |
|
like her to be. First, she is the front runner for the Democratic nomination. She does have lots of support. Not only people who love her husband and the Clinton name, but people who respect and like her. Many women would be excited about the prospect of a female at the head of the ticket. That can't be underestimated either. When delegates in 2004 at the Dem convention were asked who they would want to be the nominee in 2008 if Kerry is defeated--Hillary came out on top. The delegates to the convention were overwhelmingly liberal, which indicates she does have support among the party activists. On top of that she will be able to raise a very large amount of money and she will have at her side or individually campaigning for her the best campaigner in the business--William J. Clinton. While I'm not sold on Hillary for '08, I do think she is the candidate to beat.

Senator Hillary Clinton might indeed get elected President if she runs in 2008. Her victory would not only be due to nostalgia for the good days so recently gone by of Bill Clinton's Presidency and hard work on the part of many progressives, but also due to the very obvious fact that Buckaroo Bush and his Banana Republican allies still have at least three more years to run the Republic into the ground and be seen even by the careless electorate and the whoring corporate media doing it.

27. Hillary won't have all of the 'character' issues that Bill had |
|
Hillary wasn't the one that cheated on her spouse and then lied about it. And even though Bill was almost impeached, his approval rating the day after impeachment was 73%!! Contrast that to Bush, who currently has an approval rating in the mid 40's only months after winning re-election. Hillary is much smarter and tougher than Bill, IMO. She has 'rock-star' status amongst Dems and she will raise ridiculous amounts of money. But the most important asset that Hillary has over every other Democratic contender: a top-notch political operation that is considered the best in the business. And as others have said, she has the world's best campaigner and politician at her side. She could very well win, and boy wouldn't that DESTROY the Repugs!!!!

Sorry, not this time.

they love to define us, choose our candidates and frame the political debates. Next, they'll be creating our talking points for us.
Hillary will have a good shot at being the candidate in 2008 but so will a few other hopeful Democrats. Nothing is a done deal yet. Hillary hasn't even said that she wants to run.
If she does win, however, I would be very excited about having Bill as First Man!
