Has it occurred to anybody that wrapping themselves inthe flag
became a cliche' so now they're wrapping themselves in religion, and of course if you say you're against religion you must be for the devil.,,,,,

Actually I'm against doctors who cheat on medicare, who sell out to the drug companies, and screw Americans.

Does that sound like anybody named Frist?

by the way I just called his office in Memphis, and you guys might try calling any of his four offices and told them:

I would never vote for him for President, that he and the Family Research Council and those people are trying to turn this country int
a one religion country and that flies in the face of the constitution, that religion has no place in American politics
that he and the house of representatives are destroying this country and the constitution, that the lobbyists and the drug companies are running the country, that he has no business appearing with the Family Research Council about judges, that there is meant to be balance and checks and 3 separate branches of government and they are destroying that, that THOSE people are crazy and destroying this country....AND I DONT LIKE IT, and that although I'm not from Memphis, I'm an American and he still represents me.

1. Also Family Research Council non profit status should be revoked
since they claim to be a tax decuctible religious organization, and they are involving themselves in politics.

Maybe something the GAO and normal senators might be interested in looking into.

SCHUMER might be a good one for that.

2. Right. I noticed that they are a religious organization
Their actions, IMHO, seem pretty darn political to me.

6. This is dicey and should go to legal experts...
Religious non-profit organizations can participate in politics....to an extent. There are very fine lines that they may not cross. I suspect that as unethical and repugnant as we find this, it doesn't quite cross those lines. Still, it is certainly worth investigating.

12. Something tells me that this crosses the line
They may be so bold that they don't know or don't care that they are crossing the line.

4. While you're at it, "Ask Dr. Frist"
Edited on Fri Apr-22-05 03:47 PM by longship
Since Frist is a Doctor who seems to want to use his Senate position to practice medicine by proxy, you should ask him to help diagnose your ills.

"The Nation" has set up a form to help you do that.

5. Thanks! Here is what I just sent.
Senator Frist,

I am disappointed and disturbed with your participation in "Justice Sunday." Your fight to eliminate the last vestige of partisan politics is not about justice but about control. You know very well that Democratic opposition to judicial candidates has absolutely nothing to do with the faith of the candidates.

The stated Republican goal of a "permanent majority" is a euphemism for a one-party state which is in turn a euphemism for dictatorship. Whether the dictatorship consists of a single man or a single ideology is immaterial. Either case is anathema to the principles espoused in our nation’s founding documents.

Every individual involved in this charade has either forgotten the founding American principles or has chosen to disregard them. Clearly they do not accept that all men are created equal and that they are endowed with certain unalienable rights. The saddest aspect of the event is that the person in whose house they will be speaking preached the same creed they now so callously ignore.

They will continue to hammer on the erroneous message that liberals are not only devoid of faith but contemptuous of it. They are obstructing their quest for absolute power behind a façade of righteousness. Defeating the filibuster has absolutely nothing to do with religious fervor and everything to do with secular authority.

I am deeply ashamed of all of you.

Rev. ______________

9. Bill Nelson of FL or Ben Nelson of NE?
Bill's one of my senators. I'd be more than happy to write him asking for an investigation.

10. Okay, here is what I sent to Bill Nelson
Dear Senator Nelson,

I realize current laws allow for religious non-profit organizations to participate in the political process to an extent. But there are also fine lines which clergy and churches may not cross or they risk their tax-exempt status.

I am concerned about the publicized content of the up-coming "Justice Sunday." I am curious whether or not the actions of the Family Research Council warrant an investigation into whether or not their status should be changed from a religious non-profit to a lobbying firm.

Regards,
