Biden ready to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory (again) |
|
Our friend Joe (doll hair) Biden is once again capitulating and selling out to the republicans.
He now is offering a compromise, where the dems drop the fillabuster on 5 of the 7 nominees, keep it on the other 2, and the repubs promise not to change the rules.
This guy is so lacking in courage, it makes me sick.
Stick to your guns, you coward!

If Biden isn't arguing from a position of strength, why in the world should the Republicans give him even an inch. The likely response of Republicans to his "compromise" is to laugh in his face -- publicly.
Once again, our "representatives" are making the Republicans look like the party of conviction and the party of Joe Biden (note, I do not say the Democrats, because a true Democrat would not compromise under the current circumstances) look like a spineless, integrityless, characterless wimp that doesn't know what it wants and doesn't have any values. For Biden, even the most fundamental principles are for sale -- up for grabs.
Sorry, Biden that is a good strategy when you are dealing with decent, rational people, but it does not work when your opponents are fascist thugs. In the latter case, you are better standing your ground and showing some spirit.

Citing your post: "I've had enough of these (Rethuglican) assholes to last ten lifetimes," is EXACTLY my sediments.
Corrupt, arrogant, pieces of shit the are, in deed! Guess that's why we all hang-out here. So we don't feel so stinkin' all alone during this horrible regime dictatorship!
It's past tyranny. It's past extremists. It's even past neoconservative bullshit - We gotta call it like it is. A Dictatorship!
No News! Just Opion's w/Barbie & Ken doll heads, dressed and script ready w/their huge take-home pays. And they say we're anti-you name it!

15. No This Is One You Don't Compromise On.... |
|
You go down fighting because if they are successful democrats will no longer have any say about judiciary appointments, no matter how extreme and that goes for the SCOTUS too.
This is one we fight on...

10. Here's the strategy, agree or disagree |
|
copied form another post I made: I won't provide a link, but Steven Lubet, who is a N'western law prof and occasional writer for the Chicago Tribune op-ed page, has a theory today.
Essentially he says that holding up nominations will, over time, give the republicans enough incentive to bear the political damage from restricting filibusters. In other words, as the number of filibustered increases from ten to twenty to thirty, over time, the repugs will take the leap.
So he suggests letting many of the appellate court judges go to the floor, so that the number waiting stays down at, say, ten, thinking that the repugs won't move against the filibuster for a mere ten judges.
In that event, the filibuster will still be in place when the supreme court nominations come up.
I suppose it depends on one's evaluation of how far the repugs will push, and whether letting some disgusting nominations go by will prevent the move against filibusters, and how bad these nominations are. But it's true that at SOME point, the repugs will go for it and the dems will lose. What they have to do is make it so they never try it, and that might mean letting a number through.

The numbers are on our side here and the more ruckus there is in the press, the better our numbers get. Every grade schooler can tell you about "checks and balances". People who are bored stiff by political talk remember them as a good thing.

Jeez! We'd be better w/the mob running this country! My dog could do better.

27. This is a stupid idea |

Steven Lubet's idea is Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid.
(If it IS his idea).
All the rePUKES need is for the Dems to back down on ONE f*cking judge and the next battle will be to switch the Supreme Court from 5-4 to 4-5... It would also completely eliminate ANY democrat control over the legislative process to add to their loss of the executive and most of the judicial process to the forces of the greatest evil ever faced by the population of the Earth -- metastatic corporate capitalism.

11. I feel I missed something here... |
|
I watched Sen. Biden give a riveting, raw emotional speech straight from his guts re the Bolton nomination committee meeting last week.
Friday night, live on C-Span again I watched as he slammed this administration, jumping all over every issue the Repuk-Rethuglicans are drowning us under... now this?
Can someone provide me a link? Admittedly, I was TICKED he voted for the Bankruptcy Bill. No. I was angry, but told myself he represents Delaware where all the evil creditors reside.
After watching him Fri and last week, he won me back over. If this is true... well, I need to see the story. I'll check Yahoo.

14. This could be wise tactically |
|
Assuming the GOP won't take the deal. Many of the moderates are quietly complaining that they don't want to vote on the nuclear option at all. They have been pressuring Frist to cut a deal. If Frist refuses the deal, he has to deal with the heat from moderates who will pay him back by not voting for the nuclear option.

Now is not the time to waffle. They are loosing support for the 'nuclear option' and if business grinds to a halt in the Senate, people will blame the Republicans.
Even people who never pay attention to politics remember "checks and balances" from GRADE SCHOOL for heaven's sake!
A bad appointee then is a bad appointee now.

If ANYONE has a clue, making "deals" with the Chimpy Neocon Zombie Machine is like asking for the execution room to be repainted for your execution.
"Aw geez, they said they were goin' to repaint the place. Oh well....now if you'll just let us help you in the electric chair...That's my boy...now, just shut your eyes and relax...this won't hurt..."
